Imdenity Insurance

Where can i get a quote for indmenty insurance. hopefully moving to a house it has had some alterations done and its an ex-council house. The house owners have lived there for 12 years and they have said that they didn't do the alterations. so it must be the previous owners. anyway we need this insurance so the council cannot enforce anything upon us like for example undo the aletrations. our solicitor will get us a quote is it a safer option using the solicitor rather than shop around.

    Insist to your solicitor that the vendor provides the transferable insurance. It should be their problem, not yours. That is the usual procedure. If they really want to sell it should not be a problem.

    yes but they have refused paying as they have said that they never did anything alterations to the house such as the front garden converting it into a drive which enables parking for up to three cars/ an added porch. They know we are first time buyers, so we are not in a chain.
  • Plenty more houses for sale out there where the vendors will meet their normal responsibilities - sounds to me that your solicitor is protecting your interests correctly (I guess he is probably the best person to ask about obtaining the cover on your side if you really wish to be held to ransom on it).

    if you're a first time buyer and ready to rock and roll then you are ion a strong position.

    I guess you can't blame them for trying it on but stand firm. It's amazing what people manage to get done if they think it's all going to fall apart around them and it sounds like you are at a fairly advanced stage of the process.

    Get a quote through your solicitor as you may be surprised at how little it costs in the grand scheme of things and then tell them it's off if they don't pay it. The worst that can happen is you end up paying it yourself and carrying on as normal.....your not in this to make friends with them, just to buy their house.
    Happily an ex mortgage broker!
