Renting a home post BR

Am in a mess again. Was discharged last June, no problems there.
I had moved back to live with my husband - we were never divorced or separated officially - as he washappy tohave me living there when I was BR, the problems were partly his money sense or lack of it anyway, but now he has met someone else and is wanting a divorce.
It's all getting a bit nasty and I want to rent somewhere in the private sector. I could probably just about afford a small flat.
I haven't rented for many many years, and I understand it is difficult. Can anyone help with their experiences?

Hi GH.....sounds awful situation...I hope you are able to grit your teeth & bear with it until you find somewhere else.
Have you registered with the local authority & housing associations....its worth getting on the housing register as criteria is very relaxed now.
I`ve always used an agent but private landlords do tend to be more flexible on the rent & tend to be a bit cheaper. Word of mouth is a good starting point .
Good luck Hun.

Thank you so much Angel. I just feel sick. The house has to be sold, don't know what my rights are as there is a fair bit of equity and its in his name. I feel I want to leave imminently but I need to get a deposit together somehow.
I hadn't thought of housing associations. Will look into that. And spread the word around. Thanks.Bankrupt 11th June 2008

aw hun i've been there and i know it's an unpleasant time
you say you don't know your rights regarding the house - are you going to take some advice? i think you should and do it sooner rather than later. i'd enlist the help of a local solicitor, i'm sure your ex will be doing the same
good luck, things will get better x0 -
Thanks confused. Need to get some of these things worked out.Other half seems to be getting his advise down the pub so probably not very accurate.
I will have barely enough to live on, being retired. I feel some of the equity must be due to me.Bankrupt 11th June 2008

It's all going haywire now. Doesn't look as if its going ahead with his ladyfriend - though that could all change tomorrow. In which case he says why don't we just carry on before with me paying him some rent - neither were really able to afford to live separately.
I have scrubbed and painted and cut the garden down, put my own money into what small jobs I could as the house was neglected, dirty with masses of work needed and I have found what cheap solutions I can.
He's an alcoholic and have been up half the night with him going on and on in a very depressed state. I left him because o fthe drinking in the first place as I had a teenage daughter. He's not violent physically but stuff plays on his mind and he replays his relationships with his friends and associates and how they upset him and is talking about suicide - next year. Daughter getting married from this house in 6 weeks and we are meant to be meeting her and her husband in New York with her in laws in October on the second part of her honeymoon.
She is coming down later today (she lives about 70 miles away) for a few days - taking me to a spa tomorrow in lieu of her hen night which is on Fri and Sat.Nothing to be said by eithr of us to upset this happy year for her and he will probably be OK whilst she is here, have a meal with us.
Sorry to go on. I suppose the answer is for me to somehow be prepared for anything, and to be prepared for a largeup front deposit if necessary to go somewhere. He is paying for the holiday as he has a cash benefit on one of his pensions which he is taking.
Fortunatley my sister is coming round this afternoon to talk through it all with me. My daughter won't be coming until this evening.Bankrupt 11th June 2008
