A bit worried.

Hi,
Well, I sorted stuff out with the CCCS and we are now on a debt management plan but I am worried.
Both DH and I are long term sick with 2 dependants. We have no idea if DH will be capable of working again.
Our debts are going to take AT LEAST 10+ years to clear with the debt management plan with the way things are at the moment and to be totally honest, life is difficult enough as it is without the financial worries all the bloody time.
I know the debt is our fault, my fault, everything just spiralled out of control and then a sudden £6000 debt came through the post box from the student loans company (we were homeless one year and DH forgot to sign the deferral form and now they aren't being so pleasant).
I am just wondering about other ways of doing this ie and IVA or if necessary going bankrupt. We don't have enough money to really do anything. Feeling so bloody low. Both DH and I are now on anti depressants, can't find anywhere to live..... Everything has gone tits up and tbh, I don't know how we are going to be able to keep the family together under the circumstances, we are struggling to stay afloat.
Whine over. I just feel so lost.
Katie.
PS Our bank is charging us for being overdrawn, how do I stop this?

Oh Katie,
I know it is very hard. And it is very easy for me to say that it is just money. But it is. They can't take what you don't have.
I agree with Homer do a statement of affairs. And let us see if we can help. Having a fresh pair of eyes look over your budget can do wonders.
You have to be careful because you are both already ill. Stressing about money etc will only make you worse.
Best to post a new thread called tireesix SOA. As other wise it will get lost.
By going to CCCS you have made the first steps to getting debt free. And the second step is coming here. Here in DFW people are friendly and want to help. You are free to ignore any suggestions we make we will not be offended honest.
Take care.
Yours

It will help if you split your problems into separate issues - you can't do it all in one go, no-one can. Finances & Health are obvious ones. I'm a newbie but this site is great. May I suggest that as you are both so poorly and the problems are making it worse, that you contact your GP. He may refer to your health situation in a letter so that the companies know this is a genuine problem. This may make them realise you can't take something from nowt;)
If you haven't contacted Social Services Adults and the Children's Team, it might be a good idea. Let CAB write to them on your behalf. They are so good at supporting people.

If you can get a letter from your GP or specialist confirming your conditions then the creditors will almost certainly try to help. Did you not have payment protection? I assume you were working and in better health when you took on the debt?[strike]-£20,000[/strike] 0!0

Hello there
I am sorry you are going through such a bad time at the moment but things will improve eventually. Contacting CCCS was an excellent idea but if you feel your DMP is not working for you, call them up and let them know.
I liked this from Tiff
Makes perfect sense to prioritise and focus on your health first and foremost and then everything else.I know it's not 'just money' when you are up against it but please try to think of you and your family. Being well and together is far more important than any debt in my humble view.Tiff wrote:It will help if you split your problems into separate issues - you can't do it all in one go, no-one can. Hiya
I am new to board and is my first reply to a post. Just really wanted to say that you need to take one step and one day at a time (know easier said then done!). I have quite high anxiety so am very good at thinking ahead!!
Read up on all the info you can find and what you are entitled too, its amazing just how much power is in knowledge. Don't let anyone bully you. Stay in touch with CCCS and everyone who supports you. Use your health resources. Keep copies of everything and more then anything...
be good to yourself and keep safe.
Stay Strong.

I was stupid and took out the money while not working, its a long story.
My DH has sent letters to the student loans company but they are demanding their £6000, its really ridiculous, the Doc has stated to them that there is little to no chance of him working again but they don't care..........
I am going to talk to an advisor today so will see what happens.0 -
tireesix, I can't say more than the others but take comfort in the fact that you have started to deal with things and by recognising the problem you have started to deal with it. every step counts.
