Xmas and Birthdays - how much?

Options
I wonder if you all wouldn't mind sharing with me how much you allocate each person for their xmas/birthday present.

I'm trying to get the balance right you see but am a bit unsure of how much is a reasonable amount?

I have myself and my husband, my 2 sons, both sets of parents, SIL and BIL and their 2 girls and my nephew to buy for.

Thanks in advance. :)

We only buy for our nephew and niece and not our BIL and SIL and they do the same for us (that way we both save money!!!) Our nephew and niece get £15 each on birthdays and christmas.

    Hope that helps

Hiya youngmum, I try and spend between £10-£15 each, in the hope that I can get some 3 for 2 and BOGOF's so it works out cheaper.

For my kids it was £20 when I was on benefits, plus £10 for the party food. Max of £5 for friends kids' presents. Now its probably between £40 and £60 for the kids but the same for the food. Same for OH as well.
For mum and sis it's not usually more than £20.

We only give our grand children money £10 each at Christmas.........they get a card on their birthdays........ this is what we can afford and they all understand that, we have 14 grand children, so as you can see not a cheap do, when they reach 21 they fall off the list...... by that time they are working and probably earning more than we get in pensions.

You buy yourself a present? That should be the most expensive one!

:o Ok, that wasn't helpful, I'll just shut up now....
If you lend someone a tenner and never see them again, it was probably worth it.

Dont really go on cost. I buy most pressies in sales and heavily reduced so a £25 pressie could only cost me £5 IYSWIM.

  • It all depends on how my funds are running at the time. At Christmas I tend to try and do 3 for 2's and stuff and I also like to make some stuff like Jams and baked goods and fudge, but I don't always have the time!! I would never spend over £20 on someone who was not a really close relative, but sometimes I get a real bargain and they get a gift which was reduced from much more than this!!

Lol, it's money allocated that my OH knows he can safely lift to spend on me. He's quite happy to leave me deal with all the finances but moans it's never easy for him to buy me prezzies discretely cos I control the pursestrings! :rotfl:

    Hi youngmum,

I'm sorry, but Martin has asked us not to post duplicate threads. See here for more details. As you have already posted this in the Debt Free Wannabe board, I'll move this one over there so that they can be merged together.
