Quick question about default date
clusters
Hi there,
I had a default added to my credit history from the original creditor which was superceeded by a default from a DCA (although both defaults showed for about a year on my file!). The thing is, the original default date was earlier than the one applied by the DCA.
My question is:
Can they change the default date?
Many thanks!!!

A DCA can place a new default once the previous on was removed.
However the default placed date must remain the same, otherwise the default would last more than 6 years and is unfair, this issue is covered by ICO and OFT, and potentially the FOS if they continue not to change it back.
Do you have a copy of your credit report with the original date?

I think the rule of thumb is 1 debt = 1 default,
a creditor (wether passed or sold on) can not add a default if one has been placed for the debt (usually by the original creditor)PROUD TO BE DEALING WITH MY DEBT NERD #869

Your right they can't add a new default, they can just change a default from the original creditor into their name, this does involve taking off the old default and placing a new one with the DCA name, so they can sort of add a default. Nonetheless the dates must not be changed are the last updated date.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.
