Remove defaulted account off my credit file?

Hi all, so I went bankrupt in 2004 and have been struggling to get credit all the time since! I've since got a vanquis card, usual shenanigans but still cannot get much else! So I've just checked my credit report and it says that I have a default on my file for a hire purchase agreement which was the cause of my bankruptcy and the bankruptcy doesnt show up on my file!

However, I'm thinking if I have gone bankrupt then the account should be closed and wiped off? It says that I defaulted in june 2004 so it would be off my file in june this year but I want it gone now if possible as I want to get a new car (dont worry, I've got a job to pay it off this time!!)

Can anyone advise if this is possible and how to do it?

Edit: I also defaulted on 3 other accounts which don't show up on the file!

As far as I'm aware they're not wiped off your credit file as that's your history. It'll just show the BR from x date and then there shouldn't be anything after that date.
I could be wrong though so bumping this for others to mooch at.

    Cheers :)

The thing that confuses me though is that the default is the only thing on there, there's no sign of my bankruptcy or the other 3 accounts which I defaulted on! The default also said it was started about 3 months after I went bankrupt!

As I no longer have any of the documentation I'm at a loss for what to do!

You'll need to get all three credit files Experian/Call Credit/Equifax around £2 each for paper copies....as I said in another post I used the online ones & to be honest the information was very poor compared to the paper copies I sent for instead

In that case you could write to the lender telling them to correct the default date to your BR date.

That would mean in will disappear in April rather than June.

Plus dispute the correctness of the default date via the agencies own dispute process. When yopu do that you can provide them with copies of you BR details etc....

The only problem is that if the lender is 'awkward' it may not be sorted out before the default would have gone in June anyway. But got to be worth the price of a few stamps?

Thanks fermi, that's some good advice which is worth a try! I've misplaced all of my Bankruptcy files but obviously all of the notices of default were well before I went bankrupt anyway so I will drum up a letter.

Do you have any advice for sending it without the paperwork? :S I have to admit I'm a bit brash with throwing old things like that away...
