Hi All,
Need some advice, Tried opening an account with the Co-Op on Thursday afternoon after declaring myself BR on Thursday Morning. They told me i would need to sent a bill to them as proof of address. I sent it Thursday afternoon, Phoned them this morning to see if the had received it and said yes they have declined it, Has this happened to anyone?
Also i saw that i could try Barclays but them being 1 of my creditors before i went BR, will they let me open an account?
Thanks for your help.

I had no problem opening an account, and told them I was planning to go bankrupt - they were nice about it. I did it over the phone and was told I accepted straight away - the lad I spoke to said it was actioned quickly probably because I was on the electoral roll. I don't know if this is any help...???0

Hi M, I'm sorry! Sometimes this does happen, have you a branch near you so you can ask to speak to the manager, as to why this is so?
I know many people who opened basic account with barclays even after having them as a creditor.
And as MM has said are you on the electoral roll?
Hope this helps

It is very rae for the coop to decline anyone usually they might refer your application, but if they Have definitely declined it I would try and find out why. You should not have a problem opening an account with Barclays even if they were a creditor.:pB&SC No. 298

Thanks guys, no not on the electoral roll. Co-Op said that they where sending me a letter, so will wait for that to see what it has to say. Will have to pop in to Barclays then me thinks
Thanks Again.

Hi M, that's your problem. They don't do credit checks, but do check the electoral roll. You will need to change this to be able to get any basic account. x"If wishes were horses, then beggars would ride"

You may have a problem with Barclays as well if you are not on the electoral role:pB&SC No. 298

That could be your problem then. Any reason why your not on it? If its simply because you haven't got around to it then its really easy to do. Most councils have the form on their website and you just print it off, fill it in (its very basic) and send it off. Councils normally update the registar monthly and the deadlines are often on the form, i.e if you return it by the 10th of the month, then you would be added from the 1st of the following month or something like that. If Barclays decline you, I would suggest you get registered and then try again after you know you've been added.miserable10 wrote: »Thanks guys, no not on the electoral roll. if you ask your local electrol office they will tell you when they update the register that might help you have a better chance.:cheesy: K2nga :cheesy:
