Credit File shows 23 accounts that are current?!

Just checked my credit report and it shows that there are 23 accounts currently on my profile - which is nonsense!

Lots of them show as 'settled' and £0 balance but I can't see where it says 'closed' etc?

Should I call them to see what the story is with this - as I really only have about 6 active accounts including main bank account and mobile contract?

    Hi

Possibly an obvious question but did you actually formally close the accounts?

Even closed accounts will still show on your credit report for 6years.

I also checked my credit file last week and was surprised about how many accounts are on there but as Tixy said, even closed accounts stay on there for some time. If they are cleared and closed I can't imagine they are doing any harm to our credit files though!

Ah I see, thank goodness! I'm pretty sure they are all closed - it says something like 'date settled' or 'date satisfied on' - does that mean the date I closed them?

    Thanks for the replies.

I think if they are loans or similar then the date satisfied would be the effective closing date.
If they are credit card/catalogues type accounts - that is rolling credit accounts then you would need to actually have closed them, I can't remember exactly how they show on a credit report once closed.

It is possible that cleared but not formally closed credit card accounts can affect your credit rating because one of the things that lenders look at is the amount of credit you have available to you, when making a decision whether to lend. If accountsare open, in theory, you could max them out after being given new credit, which could leave you over-committed.
