I want a new microwave.. should I get a combination one??

I need to get a new microwave (family size) and was wondering if it is worth getting a combination one with a grill etc?? are these extra functions really worth it or never really get used?

if they can help me to prepare meals quicker then I am definately interested... if they are fiddly then I probably wouldnt bother!

Thanks : )

I had one and only used it a couple of times accidently, nearly set the kitchen on fire. Might be good if you didnt have a cooker already but no good for me

We bought a combination microwave about 6 months ago and have to admit that we hardly ever use the grill function.
However, saying that, each time we have used it, the end product is brilliant.

The times I do use it is when I just want to make some baked potatos or melt cheese over something, such as potato bake etc. The speed is not quicker, but in my mind, I feel like I am saving time and energy! (Probably aint!!!)

These days a combi micro is not that much more expensive than a normal micro, so I would say, go for it.

We never use the grill function either, and I always get our micro etc from argos and take the xtra cover out for 3 years ( i think its about £10 for a £70 micro)...Over the past 5 years ive had 3 new ones so well worth it.
    £900 towards next holiday...ta very much Mr T x

What do you do with them? Ours is still going strong after 12 years!!!

  • The digital display had gone with two of them and the last one when we used the grill ( which I think was they only time we did) it all started to smoke....even though we keep the micro v. clean ( got a thing bout that). Must be buying the wrong make!

Our microwave is a few years old and it is a combination and we love it
If you put a pizza in you just put the weight in and if it is frozen and it does it all to perfection so I would recomend it

    hi,
I have newish combi microwave (DeLonghi job from Argos) and the grill makes the top of the unit VERY hot. Since my microwave is under a shelf unit, its not good. The grill element is pretty small compared to a real grill also. I think the grill is handy for a quick spin (melting cheese, as mentioned above) but for me it hasnt replaced main cooker grill for any 'proper' cooking.

(EDIT: maybe a large family size microwave comes with better grill...)
