Just feel like having a bit of a rant about these jokers!! Rang last week to place a small order (i know, but i desperately need new work clothes & am totally skint until end of August, haven't bought anything in about a year!) anyway, the woman i spoke to said that my account was still in arrears & i would need to make one more payment before i could order anything. (i had made a payment of £50 the previous week using my debit card) Got paid yesterday & went to make a payment, so rang up, told the person who answered that I wanted to make a payment using my debit card, gave the number etc...and she said their system wouldn't accept my card! I explained that I had paid using the same card (Visa Electron) the previous week & she said they had recently had some changes to their system (in the last week though - seriously??!) and asked if i could pay by another card or cheque. I explained that I couldn't, and repeated that they had been able to accept the payment the previous week, she said i could pay in a bank, but I explained I couldn't afford to pay anymore than what they were charging & if i had to pay bank fees, NEXT would have to refund me! (cheeky i know!) She just kept repeating the same line about use cheque/other card/pay at bank, and the only explanation she could offer was that "another department" had accepted my card! now, surely they are all the same company, so how can one department accept a card and another can't??? I'm guessing that it has to do with their admin costs, but i don't see why i should have to pay more, they are making enough extra money out of me as it is!!seems my card is good enough for them when they are hounding me to pay arrears, but they obviously don't wnat my money now that my account is starting to get back in shape!! Sorry this is so long, but between them & bloody Monument (don't get me started!) I've had a very stressful start to weekend...just been having a good bawl over state of my finances!

appreciate you seem to have had a hard time wiht next but i can only guess a change in procedure has led to them no longer accepting these cards.

I know a lot of companies no longer accept electron in fact i think there is a thread on here somewhere about it

That's the thing that annoyed me though, they DO accept Electron, but only if your account is in arrears, so whilst the collections department will take a payment using Electron, the others won't!....mad as a box of frogs the lot of 'em!

  • In their defence, the advisor you spoke to could be telling the truth. I used to work in a call centre taking payments over the phone on our computer, and our computer systems would not accept Electron cards. However, the collections department took payments over the phone using a physical card machiney thing rather than through a computer, - like the ones they use in shops where you tap in your pin, except the details were taken over the phone and processed as 'cardholder not present' - these machines did accept Electron. So it is possible that one department could take Electron, and another department couldn't. Still a pain though.
My sig's too large, apparently - so apologies to whoever's space I was taking up.:lipsrseal

You could pay at a store, they take electron there.

That reminds me I must pay my arrears before the winter boots come in!
