Is there a life after a DMP

I am at the very start of my DMP - 6 months in now and all is quiet. You can see from my signature that I am in for the long hall.
I am feeling very low today for various different reasons, mainly money as usual and feeling that I am never going to be able to afford to do anything ever again. I need a holiday but cant possibly afford one, also need s a new car but again how ? I also checked my credit file this morning which was very scary reading
I want to move, not only to reduce my outgoings but also to be closer to work and i am really worried that I wont be able to due to the credits checks done my letting agents.
Will my life every be the same again? Will i ever be able to get a mortgage, a mobile phone contract.... anything ?? Please help to cheer me up. I need to know that this will all be worth it at the end as I really dont feel that it will today.

Hi, I am not on a DMP, but this is our own decision, we just about manage and like you have a long way to go. We got into a similar type of rut, you wake up thinking of debts, go to sleep thinking of debts. Life seems crap, you see people going on holiday, buying cars etc. But you know, there are more than you think in this kind of mess.
We have found things to do that are cheap or don't cost a lot, also we found that it brought me and OH closer together than ever which is good.
Summer is round the corner - and that is completely free - strange how a bit of warm weather makes you feel better!!!
All I can say is hang in there, it will get better, you are well on the road now and you have decided to change things which is good.
You will get on top of this and when you start again its on your terms not some bloody banks!!!!
Take care.Debts as of June 2012 - £68,986.35Now £27,470.20 :T57% of debts cleared:beer:0 -
We're in the process of moving, i've been upfront with my agents about my bad credit rating and they're fine with it, they're happy i've been honest and we're going through the idea of getting a guarentor to help.
Chin up, things will get easier.Annual Grocery Budget £364.00/£1500
Debt payments 2012 £433.270 -
Hi Sarah
Congrats on getting started with it all! I just wanted to say re: the moving - there some letting agents that don't credit check and there are always private landlords on gumtree for instance who don't either.
I'm going to be in that position soon of needing to move. In fact when we moved into the flat we're in now 18 months ago, the letting agent credit checked us which was a shock because our first ones didn't. We had to explain ourselves a bit, write a letter of why we had a CCJ and get a guarantor to back up the rent!
I'm hoping next time to either find myself a private landlord who usually just want bank and work references or have to find myself a guarantor again!
All I'm saying is it's doable so don't be put off moving if it would really help you get some more money together
Debt Free Day - November 1st 2011 - would be a fantastic Christmas that year ((Fingers crossed I can do it)):D
If we all stood together and threw our problems up in the air - we would rather catch our own again than somebody elses :A0 -
Hi,
Just wanted to say well done in starting your DMP.. I know how hard it can be, and sometimes you wonder if its going to be worth it.......Well, I am sure that it will be, I am assuming that you are a young person.....well once you have got this debt under control you will have the rest of your life to live and save and enjoy things. When you are our ages which is 58 and my OH is 60, its even harder. We don't have the luxury of time.....we need to pay ours off quickly before we retire....So from our point of view......very well done for dealing with it whilst you are still young enough. I wish we had had your sense when we were younger. We hve been on our DMP for 2 years, and we owed £74k, we now owe £34k, so its coming down, and so will yours.
Good luck
Elsie
