Liberal Party Just Knocked ....

Just had a canvasser at the door, dad answered (and trapped him for 20 minutes). It turns out it's a lad who is a student at a Northern University 350 miles from here. So, dad launched into his list of local bugbears .... the student didn't even know our town at all, wasn't from here, didn't live near here... he's from way oop north and just on a student placement for politics. He just wanted to hand out leaflets and say "Vote ..."

Idiots.

Hey, at least people bother to knock on your door, in my area a deluded hedgehog could wear a blue ribbon and be elected as MP.

That's my bugbear about lots of candidates and canvassers particularly in recent times. They are just flown in.

They are going to have local council elections on the same day as the general election (if the date is the one we expect).

My bugbear is that there are loads of them around for the two weeks before an election, then you never, ever see them again.

would the quality of the local candidate influence your decision, or is it party allegiance? i think our local labour mp does a good job. but if i lived in hampstead i might be tempted elsewhere other than re-elect glenda jackson "london's laziest mp".

Good question ninky. I'll be voting Conservative, not for the first time but my traditional allegiances were with Labour. A big part of this is that we have a very good candidate (who I do see out and about, in spite of what I wrote above, which is more aimed at local politics - I never see my councillors).

I have an anecdotal about this...only I can't remember it exactly. I was living in Hampstead last election (I think) and there was an embarrassing result for Labour, but can't remember exactly how embarrassing. :o

    Well you thought wrong.

We have both a general and local elections due this spring.
