Hi all
just looking for a wee bit of advice is poss.
i bought some beef stewing steak from morrisons about a month ago, planning to use it fresh. i ended up sticking it in the freezer on the use before date.
i defrosted it last night, by leaving it out overnight on the draining board, covered over with a towel ( have always defrosted meat like this and never had a problem)
when i came to use it this morning, a fair bit of it had gone grey. i cut off the worst bits, chopped the rest up really small, and bunged it in a stew. has been in on a low light most of the day so i know its really well cooked. ive just mushed it up for baba, and transferred half to fridge, half to freezer.
BUT now im panicking that im gonna poison tankbaby if i give it him!! do you reckon it will be ok???
TIA x

I don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

I've done this before - I buy loads and then suddenly find 3 things all have to be eaten on the same day so I freeze.
Beef often goes grey for me too (I never cut the grey bits off though!!)
I am sure it is fine. If it was off it would have smelt out the kitchen imo. It's easier to get forgiveness than to ask permission0 -

No I'm sure you wont. But if your worried, give some to the cat (or the neighbours cat) and see if they have thrown up by morning :rotfl:

You definitely shouldn't give your baby the stuff that you are refreezing. You are not meant to do this at all (I would and do but i eat lots of germs!) but definitely not for the baby. From freezing, thawing, cooking, cooling, freezing, thawing, heating the bacteria will be loving it and breeding like rabbits! And if, you know, your history...0

its ok to refreeze previously frozen food if you have cooked it eg freeze raw meat, defrost and cook, cool and freeze then defrost and eat but u must b carefull about hygiene and not keep reheatingMember 1145 Sealed Pot Challenge No4

thanks all :T
i do only refreeze once (after cooking), and then reheat just the once too- any leftovers go to the pooch
it was more the grey bits that i was concerned about, as i havent experienced that before. but thanks for all your advice, and i shall definately be wary about reheatingI don't know half of you half as well as I should like, and I like less than half of you half as well as you deserve.

I make stew all the time, (it is about the only thing I can make!) and this happens quite a lot. Unless it smells terrible, you should definately be OK.
MY OH gets ill by just looking at food, and he has never had a problem with it.
I wouldn't mind knowing why this happens though - is it the red dye leaching out or something? Weird.
