Why do you have two threads on the same subject?

The other thread hopefully is focused on CCCS whilst this one started out seeking advice on the best organisation. I have been working with National Debtline who I am informed pass their DMPs to CCCS. If i go down this route I do not want the hassle of phone calls I know I will get this initially but hopefully the company managing the DMP will handle these and they will fight to have the interest and charges frozen otherwise what's the point?

    Thanks for the reply rugbymum

Unfortunately the ONLY way to stop the phone calls is to send the following letter to EACH creditor by recorded delivery.
Do this ANYWAY, regardless of what you decide to do.

Hello rugbymum and thanks for this...has it worked for others?... Capital One seem to be a law unto themselves...

    Yes it works.
If the creditor continues to harrass you by phone you can then bring the wrath of the OFT, FSA, OFCOM & various other requlatory bodies down upon their heads.
Some folks have had to send the follow-up letter, but DCA's & creditors are a bit more wary when you show you will not roll over & play the game to their rules!

Have you had your DMP very long. I am getting mixed messages regarding CCCSs ability to handle, negotiate and retain frozen interest charges.

Thank you for your advice, my mind is just swimming around.

    Best wishes

12 months+ and making serious headway on our debts.

As far as I am aware credit card companies and the like are not obliged to stop charging interest, it's at their discretion.

This is the following taken from CCCS website.

Are creditors allowed to charge me interest and apply charges to my account?
Whilst most creditors recognise your efforts to repay your debt through your Debt Management Plan and will reduce or totally stop charging interest, some creditors will not. They are within their rights to continue charging interest. At the start of your DMP, we asked your creditors to consider stopping interest charges. If any of your creditors are still charging interest, we would suggest that you write to them to ask them to reconsider the charges in light of your efforts to repay through the DMP.

Thanks, I've been a bit hesitant to send further letters as a post on here a few weeks ago re Cap One said she had referred it to the FSA and they had backed Cap One even though they were phoning at crazy hours...

Be persistent with Capital One, it took me a letter and speaking to 4 different people to get my phone number removed. If you can get transferred to a UK branch then it makes things much more easier.

    Hello!

I'm two years into my DMP with the CCCS. It's been brilliant.

All my creditors have stopped interest and fees. Most stopped immediately, a couple took a little longer. For example, Nationwide were plain awkward over what is a relatively small amount of money (less than £2,000 at start) - I just kept writing to them, explaining my situation and eventually they stopped.

M&S is my biggest creditor, starting at about £10,000, but instantly stopped interest and have recently accepted my reduced payments for a third 12-month period.

I don't have any experience with your other creditors.

The first couple of months will be a bit grim with phone calls and letters chasing payments. Refuse to answer the security questions if they call and ask for them to write only. If they continue to call, send the harassment letter and follow it up if necessary.

I responded to all letters with my own standard letter about my CCCS DMP, explaining my situation and giving my CCCS client reference and their contact details.

The CCCS have been brilliant - if I've asked them to contact a creditor, they have, or advised me what to do.

It's great having them as backup and for dealing with creditors, especially at the beginning when I felt so stupid and vulnerable. But equally I wanted to be proactive with creditors myself, hence my own letters to them and not solely relying on the CCCS. I also hope this will 'look good' if anything should go to court - I shall wave all my letters at the judge!

Good luck with whatever you decide to do.
