i work 3 days a week. my little boy is at school until 12 everyday so on my days off work i was thinking i could clean while he is at school. the only thing is i have baby of 10 months. he would have to come with me. would this be feasible? would people find this strange?
also, what is the rate for house cleaning and what should i expect to be doing?

I have a cleaner and pay her £10ph, which I think is fair. She does a general clean and will do inside windows and ironing if enough time within her two hours. However, I would not be happy with her bringing any age of baby or child with her - partly becasue I think children should have 100% attention of their carer, but also becasue of the potential H&S risks. I stopped going to a hairdresser years ago as she brought her child to the salon and the poor thing was left in a playpen in there all day.
Your child won't be 10mths old forever, s/he will very soon be walking and getting into everything and I would be very conccerned as to whether you are giving full attention to either my cleaning or your child.£705,000 raised by client groups in the past 18 mths :beer:0 -
thanks fengirl, you are right.it wouldn't be fair on him or anyone i cleaned for both should have full attention and i obviously wouldn't be able to give that to both.
perhaps i can arrange for my childminder to have him those two extra mornings aswell.
thank you for explaining what your cleaner does and how much you pay her. i will ask around locally and try and get an idea of what is the average rate for a cleaner in these parts (northern ireland)."it's better than a poke in the eye with a pointy stick" - my dad, regularly throughout my childhood when I complained about something being too small/not perfect/not tasty/not what I wanted. he was right every time.0 -
Just a thought helzbelz, but what about ironing? If you set up an ironing service you could collect people's ironing, do it in your own home while keeping watch on baby, and you wouldn't have the extra expense of a childminder.0

hi, i also live in NI and i clean in the local hospital few nites a week, ever thought of something like that? would someone else be home by then to mind the kids and then u wouldnt need a babysitter? good luck with ur search0 -
I do a cleaning job for the local authority in some council owned buildings. Their pay rate is quite good so maybe you could consider that as well. They might even be able to help you with childcare or you can get tax credits to pay a registered nursery or childminder.0

thanks guys.
i hadn't thought of taking in ironing. do you know anything about it? how to charge etc?
i cant work evenings as my partner is stationed in southampton and we live in Northern ireland so no-one here to mind the boys. i have been looking in the local papers for cleaning jobs with companies/schools etc but not much there at the minute. that is why i thought of doing it for individuals instead."it's better than a poke in the eye with a pointy stick" - my dad, regularly throughout my childhood when I complained about something being too small/not perfect/not tasty/not what I wanted. he was right every time.0
