Hi BTD, I am on 19 points a day......for me it works well because I can have whatever I want, as long as it is in my points. So if I want chocolate, I can have it, as long as I adapt everything else accordingly. I find that quite easy to do, because a typical day would include:
2 points for milk in cereal/coffee
2 points - breakfast cereal
2 points - soup or salad for lunch
so, then 2 points for cereal bar mid morning, 2.5 points for 2 finger kit kat in the afternoon.....plus an apple whenever.
that leaves 8 points for a good dinner, but I have been able to eat three decent meals, have a couple of snacks to keep me going, and a good big plate of dinner.
my 8 points for dinner will easily do me with meat potatoes/rice/pasta and veggies, plus some sort of sauce/gravy, so no need to feel "deprived".
One thing that others might not find so easy is the bread thing - I eat very little bread, because I have a yeast intolerance, so I am happy to have soup or salad for lunch. If you are used to eating toast for breakfast, and sandwiches for lunch, then you will have to get used to cutting them out.
Like debt busting, some things work for some, and some things work for others, but my tips are:
1) write everything down and work out the exact points for the first few weeks. What you *think* is a medium portion of pasta, worth 2 points, could well be a huge portion, worth 6 points - make that sort of misjudgment too often and you won't lose weight because you are simply eating far too much.
2) Don't stick rigidly to your exact points every day - as long as you don't go over your total points for the week, it doesn't matter if you have 14 one day, and 35 another......as long as the average is right. this means that you can still have a big roast, plus pud on a Sunday, or a takeout, just cut back in the week to compensate.
3) Keep cup a soups in your desk drawer for emergency lunches. Not the diet low cal water with a hint of veg stock cube ones, but the nice ones - they still only work out at 2 points each, but can easily save you from going out and spending lots of points and pennies on fattening sarnies from the shop!
4) Keep a couple of ready meals in the freezer for those CBA days. M&S and Tesco both put points on their packaging, so you don't even have to work it out. So on a day when you know you are going to be eating at odd times, or on your own etc, just grab a ready meal from the freezer and know you are within your points. For example, today everyone is doing things at different times, and eating accordingly, so I have had sweet chilli chicken with noodles from Tesco - 6.5 points and only £1.....pretty good on all counts.
It is actually pretty MSE, because you don't waste anything - veggies can be used up in no-point soup, and spending on lunchtime treats goes right out of the window -Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. Decided against skiing tonight - very tired, and in need of an early night. I've done a matched bet for £8.30 profit, so am happy with that and will veg on the sofa for a couple of hours I think. Again, like debtbusting, we often know what we think we want to do, or what we should do, but unless we are absolutely ready to do it, then it won't work.
I lose count of the number of "I'll start my diet tomorrow" moments that I have. But when it clicks, it clicks nicely. I hope it lasts.....!
Surfbabe, enjoy your early night - I am snuggled with a fleecy blanket now, but am sure it won't be long before I head up to bed!Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. If I can get just below 10 stone, I will be happy enough with that, and reckon it is sustainable. Before Dad died, I got down to 9 stone 2, but I don't think I can stay at that level.
I went up to 11st 12. Today I am 10 st 11, so am about half way! Would just like to see 9st something - it has been a long time since I have been there!
My healthy bmi is under 10st 6, so I really need to be below that at the very least (or the very most!).Successful women can still have their feet on the ground. They just wear better shoes. (Maud Van de Venne)Life begins at the end of your comfort zone (Neale Donald Walsch)0 -
