OK. Sorry, should know better... everything I know about gardening I only learned this year and now am freaking others out with jargon....
A 'truss' is the sprig of flowers that grows on the main stem in between the branches of leaves. They don't usually grow until after a good few sets of leaves have come first. They look like withery branches at first, then they produce tiny yellow flowers, and after the flowers die, the tomatoes grow in their place. I'll look for a picture for you.....0 -

btw..have found that the copper thing works with slugs..good job husbands a plumber!!
'Warts' are actually root 'buds'.
If you broke the plant off and stuck it in compost or a jar of water to start those are where you new roots would grow from. There is a proper gardeners technical term but I can't remember what it is.
I get lots of new little tomatoe plants from the removed side shoots by doing this with them.Living on Earth can be expensive, but it does include an annual free trip around the Sun.0
