Overpayment Update & Child 19yrs

you may remember my thread a few weeks back, basically the NRP's employee sent a few employees CSA money using my reference number only and the CSA paid the whole amount into my account. This was only brought to light when I made contact with the CSA to ask why i had recieved a large amount rather than my regular amount.
IMO both the employer & the CSA are at fault, the employee for sending it to one account only and the CSA for releasing the amount when it was way higher than the payment schedule amount and when a few months earlier when a larger than normal amount was paid by the employer (this was arrears that the payments team lost the payment schedule for)the CSA THEN held back the extra until i had to telephone and point out this was arrears that they had missed, it was then released.......so why was this large amount allowed through ???
On speaking to the CSA today they have informed me they are doing a full account breakdown regarding the overpayment issue........can anyone tell me what a full account breakdown will acheive? when they know this overpayment was sent in error by the employers and was meant for a few NRP who work there.....i can't see the connection between my account and the employer and the CSA sending me an overpayment.
Also i informed the CSA today that my son who is in full time further education was 19yrs on Tuesday and was told they have checked with Child benefit and as this continues until June so will his CSA.......i believed it stopped on his 19th birthday end of but they say different.......confused.com

I can't add anything about the CSA money, but this might clear things up re getting CB til June (end of school term?):
If your child goes into full time education or training
We can carry on paying Child Benefit up until the age of 20 if your child goes into relevant education or training. Your child would need to have either been accepted, enrolled or started on the course before the age of 19.
We cannot pay Child Benefit if your child is doing:- any other type of education or training
- relevant education or training that is provided by an employer or as part of a job contract

Many thanks, although i understand the child benefit side after much reading up on the CSA i understood that CSA ends on the 19th birthday ...full stop...even if child benefit continued ......0

Yes, CSA should stop once the child in 19, regardless of Child Benefit. The liability ends from the first day of the maintenance period in which the birthday falls, I believe, so I would suggest you contact them again to check as it sounds like you spoke to a numpty
. You could just leave it, of course, but if it ever gets picked up they can recover any overpayment from your ongoing payments for any other children, so you might end up out of pocket in future. 0 -
;)Hi if this is any help my daughter is coming up 19 and her maintenance will end when she reaches 19. even though she is sitting further 2 years at college shoud you have any arrears after your child reaches 19 they will still be liable to collect them because they accrued during normal collection of maintenance, before child reached 19.0

Hi BB,
I did hear that they were increasing the age this year, now I dont remember where I heard it  or seen it  but i just know am not surprised .
I did not think it was right now, I thought it was later in the year, never mind its going to happen anyway...in fact maybe the csa dont even know themselves and will deny that they ever said that it was happening .
Surely the CSA would have to write to all involved to let them no as from????? child maintenance age increases to 20, mind you suppose they dont have to do anything cos they never seem to take responsibility for their mistakes. :silenced:0 -
At first I didnt believe it thought 20 was too old. But have since found out that school leaving age is now 18yrs old pmsl :rotfl: dd aint so thrilled.
With kids leaving school at 18 now, dont take that as gospel btw as some people i've spoken to think its 17 for leaving age. I'll find out when dd starts high school. Kids will only be starting college at 18 so 20 is going to become the new 18 iyswim.
Also have you noticed the high schools are no longer called just high schools they are all being called colleges and academys now. I expect a date to be announced regarding the age going up to 20 if not this year then definately next year.0 -
The schools here are now called Academys, lots of old schools have been knocked down and being replaced by the new Academy.
Carnt keep up with the changes to schools, maintenance, petrol  lol What a wonderful place we live in.
I too thought 20 was quite old for recieving maintenance, does that now mean children going to uni and receiving loans, grants etc can still claim child support? and does that mean children who are working p/t or f/t before they reach 20 are still entitled to child support??......In fact what am having trouble saying is :wall:At what point do they class children as no longer in need of child support?? Is it when they start work or go to uni, plz heeeelp am confuuuused:doh:0
