Welcome finance

Hi,

i lost my job last year and was out of work for seven months. i am now in full time employment but on less than half my previous salary. my mortgage lender has been very understanding and helpful, but i also have a secured loan with welcome finance which i have been struggling to pay in full each month. i have tryed to explain my situation, and how i expect it to improve even more, but i find them to be extremley agressive on the phone. i recently had home visits where they have been banging on the door, looking through the letter box etc when i've been out, with only my wife and baby in, which i complained about but they were not interested. they now want me to go into there local office to discuss my situation but i feel they will get even more aggressive with there approach and i cannot understand why they can't discuss over the phone, is there anyone i can speak to? or letter templates i can use to resolve this issue?

    You need a paper trial.

You should not contact them on the phone and remove their common law right to access the property. Under OFT guidelines they must make an appointment to visit you. - http://www.oft.gov.uk/shared_oft/business_leaflets/consumer_credit/oft664.pdf

There is a letter about removing there rights to visit the property, not sure where that is. The telephone template is here anyway - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=11571485&postcount=4

You really do need to talk as a matter of urgency to one of the debt charities listed here http://www.moneysavingexpert.com/loans/debt-help-plan#help

You mention your wife is at home? Any chance that she could get part-time work to increase the household income?

  • hi hun i feel for you welscum are bunch of !!!!!!, they are aggresive and unhelpful,
as dark convict advised send the letters,
welcome as a company are closing and they are trying to rein in as much of their debts as they can within 3 years (i think) i am sure some one will correct me if i am wrong. x
dont let them bully you and keep your chin up.
  • i just settled early with welcome and they wrote off £900. are you in a postion to offer them a settlement offer? I did and got 50% off the balance. They actually contacted me and offered a 35% off settlement, then i knocked them down to 50%! worth a go!

If they have been intimidating your wife that is certainly unacceptable because it breaches paragraph 2.5 of the OFT guidance

(Putting pressure on debtors or third parties is considered to be oppressive.)

Banging on the door/looking through the letter box is contrary to 2.6 J
(acting in a way likely to be publicly embarrassing to the debtor either
deliberately or through lack of care)

So if you go to this thread you can copy and paste the template letter I have put there. It will work just as well with a lender as a Debt Collection Agency.
  • I have a secured loan with welcome which was to consolidate debts, which I know find they did not consolidate all my debts, when contacted they cannot find my file and have no record of whom they were to pay, I have sent them a copy of my original loan agreement which on two occasions they say did not recieve. After contacting the financial ombusman they finally admit to not settling all my debts. But that was over 5mts ago and still no payment has been made. I have a weekly phonecall from them asking me to find another loan provider as they no longer have a licence to offer secured loans, they offered me a settlement figure of £15800 when my original loan was for, £13000 and I have been paying them £350 a mth for the past 18mths. I have told them I will not be paying in full until they settle the outstanding debts that should have been payed which have now black listed my name. I have heard many rumours that welcome are going bankrupt I don't know how true this is but am more than annoyed that I have to continue paying them £350 a mth as its secured on my property if it were unsecured believe me I would have stopped paying them mths ago, as they have ruined my credit rating anyway. Rant over.
