Offering a little info on the Scottish System

I have just had my phone interview and after nearly being sick with nerves it only lasted 25 mins and was relatively pain free! They said they're going to look into my car as it's worth over £1000 (only worth about £2k) and get back to me so I'm a little worried about that but hopefully they'll see that we need it due to where we live and the hours my husband works.

Anyhoo, for people who are compiling SOA's I was told of a couple of the guidlline amounts whilst I was doing mine on the phone and thought I would share as they were a bit different from what the English system "allows". We are a family of 2 adults, 2 young children (3.5yrs and 19 months) and we also have hubby's son stay a couple of times a week who is 10. They based our expenses on a family of 5 and the max for groceries is £435 (we had put £520) and max for clothing is £64 (we had put £80). Although these are guidelines we were allowed to keep our shopping budget as my youngest has milk allergies so her food can be a bit more expensive.
Not too sure if they thought our utilities were high but my hubby has his interview with the same man this afternoon so he's going to ask if all is OK there. I'm assuming that since we reached an agreement on the IPA verbally over the phone though that they were.

When calculating an IPA they looked at what we had left over each month and asked what we would be prepared to pay. We had a surplus of around £130 and I suggested £80. The trustee said we usually look to roughly split it down the middle so why don't we call it £70 and asked if we were prepared to pay that every month. Happy with that amount as our Trust Deed [STRIKE]thieves[/STRIKE], sorry trustees tried to take £400.
The minimum they take for an IPA is £30.

I asked if we had to inform insurance companies that we were now BR and he said no. I also asked if there would be any come-back if we had to claim and they subsequently found out we were BR and again he said no. BR or not it won't make a difference. I also asked if our landlords would be informed and thankfully they wont be. They just need their name so they can do a Land Registry check to make sure that the person going BR doesn't show up as an owner.

It seemed pretty straight forward and the trustee was very polite and professional and didn't seem judgemental at all which helped immensely! Hopefully hubby will find it the same.

Although I know it probably varies from trustee to trustee I wanted to share my experience as there's not a huge amount about the Scottish system on here, hopefully this will help at least a few people out :)
