    I completely agree.

I'm not sure when this process started, but it seemed to be around when Blair came in - he had some very good media contacts after all and an army of spin doctors. I suppose it's part of the celebrity culture too, it's been extended to politicians.

Are we just dumber as a society? The selection of David Cameron over David Davis was pretty significant, when the Tory grass roots decided to adopt a style over substance politician to compete with Blair. I suppose you can't blame them - they had three leaders that represented traditional Tory values and talked about policies, not platitudes in opposition under New Labour, and they all failed. I suppose you could attribute their failure in a large part to the media too - they were pretty compliant towards New Labour when Blair was in power, the Tories were presented as an obsolete, discredited party full of old men. So they didn't really have a choice but to start imitating New Labour and its methods.

You've hit the nail on the head. I think the time of celebrities in general will soon pass (sincerely hope so).

I'm hoping there will be a return to integrity and high moral values (which certainly existed more in the past), though it's going to be an uphill struggle given how much society has been brainwashed to a descent into idiocy.

There will always be corruption and liars within society, but perhaps the shockingly upwards trend in these respects can be reversed? Perhaps it will happen when people start suffering real hardship once the propped-up house of cards has collapsed?

I sure hope so. You're right, the celebrity culture was a product of the era of easy living and easy money which will probably draw to a close once the finances of the public and the government start facing up towards reality. We need real leaders for the tough period ahead, not spivs like Tony Blair.

Another Blair bombshell from the Evening Standard:

    http://www.thisislondon.co.uk/standard/article-23817037-revealed-tony-blairs-secret-oil-links-to-middle-east.do
In a further revelation, a classified memo from Mr Blair to President Bush showed the full extent of his support for the toppling of Saddam Hussein.

The personal note — which has been seen by the Chilcot Inquiry but not released by the Government — shows that Mr Blair wrote: “You know, George, whatever you decide to do, I'm with you.”

Rawnsley's book shows that Sir Christopher Meyer, Britain's ambassador to the US, reacted with astonishment when he saw the note.

He phoned Mr Blair's foreign policy adviser Sir David Manning, saying: “Why in God's name has he said that again?”

Sir David replied: “We tried to stop him... but he wouldn't listen.”

Who do you work for, Tony?

What a bag of worthless sh*t that man is. Where's Peter Tatchell for a citizen's arrest when you need him.

I can only feel angry about Bliar's cheshire cat grin and his millions for a short while. I always console myself by looking at who he married;)

Speaking as a feminist... that seems reasonable.

OTOH, she married him, he married her. Two people suffering instead of four. The sum of human happiness is the greater for it.
