you would need to officially opt out
a postie needs to explain any excess D2D items,as these are returned to the D2D office in Perth(i think the whole UK uses this one)
if they took them out and binned them then they could/would be sacked
so saying not to put them through means the postie could be sacked
i know it sounds extreme but that is the enviroment in RM now

Thanks for this. If the postie had told me that I would have been a lot more sympathetic!

well some posties aren't so good at getting their message across
plus it sounds a bit jobsworth
however people have been sacked for not delivering D2D items before and will be again

You think you're getting alot of junk from Royal Mail? At the moment RM are limited to delivering no more than 3 items of junk mail (D2D) to you. Under the new agreement that is likely to be approved, there will be no limit.

As RM make a tidy profit on D2D you can expect your recycling box to be alot heavier soon.

I did word that badly! :)

I meant that the sticker is ignored by the people who deliver the take away menus :)

The MPS was an entirely seperate moan! I get junk mail almost daily - it is my own fault, I used to enter loads of competions and apply for freebies, obviously getting on every mailing list going! We also seem to get so much unaddressed junk delivered by the postman - at least once a week and often more we get leaflets from Sky and Virgin, Dominos Etc. pushed through the door with the mail. Is there any way to ask that the postie doesn't push these leaflets through our letterbox Custardy? I asked the postie but he just said he has to deliver them and has no choice.

My personal opinion of RM flyering is that it is an abuse of access to your property, as our post boxes are on private property (flats) and the postie has a key. The opt out does work, I signed up and had to complain a couple of time afterwards as our relief postie was dumping all the spares on the floor in the foyer, but it doesn't happen any more. ;)

I am thinking that returning anything with a prepaid envelope might just make mail shotting uneconomical or perhaps this is simply wishful thinking.

The Junk Mail Notice needs to be near the gate, and when I did the Opt Out for Royal Mail, my post was delayed. Confirmed by BIL postman.

Ken - did the postman explain why your post i.e. non-junk mail was delayed? I was thinking about making use of the Royal Mail opt out, but now....

there is no reason for an opt out to interfere with any mail

Had to re-instate it to get baCK TO NORMAL MAIL DELIVERIES.
Brother in Law was a local postman and he explained that those that opt out have their boxes marked, his exact words, don't know what it means. and if too many customers want opt out it's quicker to delay or ignore.
Have been Mail Preference and Telephone Preference for yonks, no problem. Gradually going onto ONLINE and Christmas greetings etc, so goodbye to Royal Mail eventually. They are putting themeselves out of business.
And some things are plain daft, like the new rule 5miles per hour with a loaded sack.
