BHS 20% off day - cardholders only

I was in Bhs today and the sales assistant told me that next Thursday its a 20% off day for card holders. But to get the 20% off you have to sign up for a Bhs credit card:(
Now the thing is, I'm not interested in having a credit card. Its just hassle to me. I definitely wouldn't want to spend on it, as then I'd have to remember to pay it etc - I only spend money that I have, so I'd far rather just put it on a debit card, no bills to pay etc.
If you take out this offer do they let you show the cc to get the discount, but pay by other means (eg debit card)?
Also, if I have a credit card which I never, ever use (eg I just consider it in the same way as my clubcard etc) will they get stroppy about this and cancel it, and does it do any damage to my impeccable credit rating?
Finally, apart from these special discount days, are there any other reasons to sign up, eg do they send vouchers etc?
Does anyone else have one which they don't actively use as a credit card?
I think that they may be shooting themselves in the foot with this marketing strategy, as I'm bug*ered if I'm paying 20% more than everyone else, yet I'm reluctant to take out a credit card I don't want or need. So I most likely will just stop shopping there. Which is a shame, as I love some of their vintage homewares...

Why don't you just take out a credit card, use it for that day, and then pay the bill, close the account.0

Last time they had one of these days, I used my choice card (their loyalty card) and they gave me 20% off with that. Not sure if it is meant to be like that though!!What is this life if, full of care, we have no time to stand and stare0
