Savings account - Building Society

Hello everyone

Hope you are all well this evening.

Has anyone opened a savings account with a building society whilst being undischarged?

Want an account that I can put the money in for opticians/car maintenance etc so I don't spend it, preferably with a passbook so it's not easy for me to get at the cash.

Thanking you all very much

Angie

Wouldn't touch Abbey with a barge pole (I think they are a bank now anyway!!) I used to have an account with Leeds & Holbeck. I'll have a look at YBS though, thanks for the tip

I would prefer a passbook and then I have to go to the branch to get the money. Not at that stage yet where I fully trust myself not to say "oh fupp it, it's only £....!!!"

Need to get out of that habbit!!!

    Ta for the advice though

Apart from the YBS you will struggle to get an account with anyone else, although you may be lucky. We both opened an internet saver account 2 weeks after being declared BR with the YBS, you do get a cashcard although ours are not Visa ones.

    Hi

I am going to try Leeds & Holbeck tomorrow. I will let you know the outcome.

I know I can have an account with our credit union, I suppose that's the next best thing.

    Thanks

Nationwide might give you a flex account. I got mine before BR but not had a problem.

I opened a Natwest Reserve savings account on-line 3 weeks in to BR.

They don't credit check you for this account, they only run an id check and fraud check. You get a visa debit card too.

They were even a creditor named in my BR.

Have you tried a co op ISA? I opened one along with our cashminder 1 week before BR. Just after BR they closed it down but then sent me an apology letter saying it was closed by mistake and they opened another one straightaway!!

It comes with a passbook too.

We don't have a co-op in our town so I would have to go a fair way to draw the money, plus the fact even though I like the Co-op they are still a bank and I have to admit I am not a massive fan of banks.

I did manage to open an ISA with the Leeds and Holbeck which is fab.

    Thanks
