While going through an irritatingly slow and problematic remortgage, I had to get at two different times a mortgage statment printed by Abbey...
Each time they charged me £50 for the privilege.
Is this refundable? I've been reading up on the data protection act and not sure if this is enforcable, has anybody had any experience with this?

I doubt it. You asked them to do some work and they did it and charged you for it. I don't think the data protection act covers transactional statements (the act would enable you to get at the raw data but not at a packaged statement and it is the replacement statement that you want).
And if you used the data protection act you would have to pay a fee anyway.0 -
