I know what you mean. I am just about to stop paying everyone and am very worried about phone calls etc. its going to take me quite a while to save fees.
I am going to try and ask them to contact me in writing only but dont know if that will work for long or not.sonnyboy0 -
I'm a a good few weeks in and getting a ton of calls, but usually in spirts - Barclaycard are calling on 4 different numbers (from a call centre) straight after eachother about twice a day (I'm also getting generated texts.) Cahoot are calling every other days and received a ton of reminders through the post. Barclays Bank and Santander have both sent letters, just waiting for them to start hassling me via phone. Its worrying at first but I've kinda got used to it now. What did bother me however was when Barclaycard attempted to call me in work, despite me never giving them my work number. I'm have the letter template to request no more calls, but I'm waiting to see if they try my work phone again first.
I live in a rented house with 2 friends (through an estate agency) and been here 2 yrs - I havent told anyone (except my friends I live with) just because I'm not bankrupt, I'm just in the process of not paying right now, so there isn't much to tell at this stage anyway. Besides I dont think my landlady gives a poop as long as she gets her rent. I have never fallen behind on rent/bills etc, only personal debt.
One thing I found amusing was a generated letter from Barclaycard with regard to 'Debt problems' - stating that you (ie me) should manage debt properly and always make sure that priority debt like rent and bills are paid before unsecured debt which was secondary. I was thinking 'great, thats what I'm doing. we're on the same wavelength, now leave me the hell alone!' :rotfl:
I've had no surplus to save this month, its the first time I've had my whole pay without paying off my debts, and I tried to get myself in order a little this month since I'd borrowed money from people in January and paid them back. So I'll be a few months getting my money together, plus I need to pay a hefty dental plan. Its stressful, but its not the end of the world, lots of people are going through this and we're in the middle of a recession, just ride in out. Hope that makes you feel a little better!

I know what you mean they are a nightmare. I hate the automated texts the most.
If you get sick when the call centres ring, just answer your security questions wrong. It baffles them.
I hope they stop soon good luck sizzler:)0 -
Its stressful at first, but I'm ignoring just fine now - mobile always on silent. I've looked into Barclaycard numbers 0845 (they are relentless), and there's actually a petition against them on the 10 Downing Street website. Apparently, they are call centres based in India and the Phillipines and work on commission for various debt collection. I've read posts of them relentlessly ringing a 12yr old girl by mistake and constantly ringing random people who have never even used Barclaycard!
At the end of the day, I am doing the only thing I can do at this point - not pay. Its been getting worse each month and I no longer had any credit left. I need to get to work/eat/pay my way - I can't do that on thin air. Either the debts don't get paid or I am stuck not able to pay my way, bottomline. I cant fall behind with rent since I'd get evicted (and not have a deposit to move elsewhere), if I dont pay for my £130 monthly tube pass, I cannot get to work and would be dismissed, etc etc. It would end uo me moving out on London and back to my mothers in the country and being unemployed in the middle of a recession. No thanks, I'll do it my way and stop paying!!!

My OH is applying for a DRO while I am planning to go BR. I normally have authority to speak about the accounts he holds, but Barclaycard said they couldn't talk to me due to data protection. I told them I was going to talk to them anyway, so said he had spoken to CCCS and they suddenly got interested, wanted his ref number!!!!! Due to data protection, I can't tell you Barclaycard, sorry!!!!
I hate the calls too, sometimes when I'm feeling strong I'll take them, other times I can't take it anymore and ignore them. And I'm waiting like you, so we're all in this together.0 -
Just tell them you have gone BR and tell them not to call again or you will report them to your OR
I had 36 calls in one week from Capital One so my OH phoned OR and the calls stoopedSealed Pot Number 018 🎄2009..£950.50 🎄2010..£256 🎄 2011..£526 🎄2012..£548.80 🎄2013...£758.88🎄2014...£510 🎄2015...£604.78 🎄2016...£704.50 🎄2017...£475 🎄2018...£1979.12 🎄2019...£408.88🎄2020...£1200.63...🎄2021…£588 🎄2022 £672… 🎄2023 £3,783.90 🎄2024…£3,882.57🎄2025…£4083.🎄20260 -
It is hard, but just try and ignore them, I found Barclaycard a nightmare as well.:pB&SC No. 298

and WISE too late!0 -
As has been said before just mess up the security details.
I stopped paying about 4 months before BR and when they rang and asked for my date of birth I would say " No. I dont know who you are. You could be anybody saying you are so and so "
The phone would go down after that. They gave up after a week or so
It is hard but just try to ignore them and get on with your life and think of the end result.0 -

Hello GMMB, It is worrying I know do what everyone's suggested. Don't answer the door for a while and check in your lease re bankruptcy, if there is a clause there. If not for piece of mind ring them as long as your not behind with any rent.
Take care

You seem to be in a simalar situation to me. I have in the past paid creditors and not left myself enough for food or petrol etc. I cant do it any more and have to get a life back. My circumstances changed and before I always paid everything on time but things change and you cant plan for everything.
I am really dreading the phone calls etc but will have to cope somehow.sonnyboy0
