Quick question re barclays cash card account

We had a joint account with barclays until around may of last year, when the closed the account because of the £1000 overdraft debt we had with them.

I was declared bankrupt yesterday and would like to open a cash card account with them in my sole name, does anyone know if the old acc closure and debt would affect the application or if i would be wasting my time.

We have co-op cashminder account at the minute in joint names and is running smoothly - but would prefer the connect card that comes with the barclays account, for doing my shopping on the internet as i know that Tesco wont accept the co-op card on line.

Forgot to say im not bothered about the internet banking as i run a double cash book and write all income and outgoings in this and then do a reconcilation with statement when it comes in, as the co-op internet banking isnt that great.

Any comments would be appreciated.

Shouldnt affect you...barclays were my largest of creditors & they still offered me a basic account after i'd gone bankrupt

bear in mind you'll have the visa debit card with them sadly though they'll take the online banking bits away till your discharged (weird rule)

I have heard of others on here who have opened this account, despite Barclays being one of their creditors.

  • Im not bothered about the internet banking as im not a huge fan of the co-ops, as i say i run a double cash book anyway and write everything down that we spend and goes into the account!!!

Thanks for the reply phil much appreciated. Might go and try later then.

If I may why do you not like the internet banking side of the coop? I have in the past used HSBC, Nationwide and Natwest and I find it just as good as any of these:)
