On a car boot?
I am thinking of baking cakes and making pasta sauces, jam's and lemon curd. Has anyone else got any experience of this.
I understand I have to ask EH to okay my kitchen, but more wondered about peoples successes.
Thank you all
Ang

You'd need to getca basic food hygeine certificate and public liability insurance.
There are other threads about this elsewhere on the forums.I was born too late, into a world that doesn't care

When me & oh did car boots last year, once there was a stall behind us selling us cakes. They looked yummy & they certainly sold well! As it was a warm sunny day they had put a small gazebo (sp) over the table with the cakes on to help keep them a bit cooler.Avon Lady since 2009 - I help on the Avon hints & tips thread to help other reps/new sales leaders as I was helped so much by it when I first started out :A0

Check first that you are allowed to sell food at the boot fair; When my girlfriend and I have had stalls in the past, it was in the advert something like "no food sellers" or similar;0

Hi, You can do it online, these 2 cost around £30 and takes 3 to 9 hours. I'm sure there are other ones, which I am about to investigate as I need to do the course myself0 -
I would say your idea has good potential... but surely not at a car boot?!?0

i would agree. the people who frequent carboots want cheap food. Homemade cakes, jams, pasta sauces, would just be priced too high to get any interest, and most bakeries around me already have spots at out local carboot, selling their cakes that are going out of date (priced accordingly)
Just costing up a standard 8" victoria sandwich, using supermarket value brands, would give you a production cost of around £3, without factoring in time/profit/non sales - i know of very few people who will pay well over £3 for a cake
how much are pitches in your area? where i live they are £12, so you have to sell quite a few cakes to cover expenses
