Clearly the employer/mother perhaps needs to be reminded in a gentle way with regard to employment laws before she takes on someone else, after all it appears she is only thinking about her daughter and continual care that is needed as would any parent.
  • my girlfriend has just received two enhanced CRB checks back for her 2 jobs within 3 week so the time scale varies alot for these checks.

Your friend was unwise to inform her current employer of his/her intention of leaving for a new job until the offer of a new job had been confirmed in writing from the new employer, AFTER any CRB check had been carried out.

Took 13 days for my enhanced CRB to come back for a care worker position. Quite quick apparently. Someone else had one done a few days before me and waited a week or so longer. Differs with everyone I think.

Probably - but who would do this? My friend doesn't want to strain things any more than they already are.

She didn't want to leave them in the lurch, hence telling them as soon as she had the confirmation. She has had a written job offer - it states that the job is hers subject to CRB, and as there is nothing that could possibly come up on the CRB check she felt that it would be more beneficial to her employer to tell her. There has also been a request for references before she had even had the interview so to keep it quiet wouldn't really have been possible.

She is going to see how it goes hope that the CRB comes back before her employer finds someone new.

    Thanks for all the replies.

Sorry to hear of your friends bad luck. Sadly its the way small companies/sole traders and many employers work.

Your friends honourable good nature has been used against her.

Found myself in a similar situation. Applied for a position in June, did not hear anything and so started a job in November, with three months trial period. Second week into the new job received confirmation that I had been successful and subject to vetting the job would be mine.

The downfall was for the vetting had to give three years compulsory employment references. Needless to say having been in a small company for two - three weeks and still on trial period it went down like a lead balloon!

Obviously, at the end of the trial period, early February, was called into the office and advised that my employment was to be terminated, reasons stated, nothing wrong with your work, more than happy with it but you have proved you have no interest in my company.

Still waiting for vetting to be finalise, approximately 90 days. Hence now unemployed.

My heart goes out to your friend and sadly I can understand how frustrated she feels. I feel she is an honourable lady and fingers crossed her checks will come through soon. I gather from various posts the time scale does tend to vary.

I wish her good luck in her new job and advise for the future steer well away from small time employers who seem to think they are above the law and walk all over everyone.
