I live in whiteabbey and today was out from about 12 visiting my mum and didn't get home until about 9 this evening. Our neighbour pulled up at the same time as us and said that a painter/decorator was looking for us today. They were there to paint the front of our house, apparently our land lord had asked them to do it, but we own our house and have been living her for 3 and a half years. :think:She said they called to her just to make sure it was the right address and give her a description of us even said that we had a young baby, which we do.:eek:
I have telephoned the police and reported it. It could be a genuine mistake, but im really freaked out that they could give her a description of us. Im on my own all day whilst my husband is out at work and am terrified in case they come back. What should i do if they do? The police said for me to give them a phone if im suspicious and they will check them out, in case they are scammers but god knows what else could happen.
Has anyone ever heard of this happening before and what should i do??

Not wishing to alarm you but I've heard of thieves in the past who arrive at a house reverse the van into the driveway and start doing the front garden. All looks perfectly legit and there is no reason for neighbours to suspect anything but their mate is round the back filling the van with stuff from the house.
If you see a vehicle hanging around your property get the registration and pass that on to police. Would also be useful if you are out and about over the next while to leave a TV or something on so that if they look through your window they think someone is in.
As I say I don't mean to scare you and hopefully this was just a mistake.0 -
I arrived up at my mums house last summer on a week day and there was a van and workmen up ladders etc. The van had full flashy professional graphics - guttering services etc. I said hello as I went indoors - they packed up and left. I said to my mum when she got home - I see you got your gutters cleaned today? No. Lucky for my mum that I had decided to call in on my way home and wait for her to finish work, police said they had reports of a similar van driving around looking suspicious all day in the area. Frightening.0
