Natwest and the loan of doom

Hi all.

Need a bit of advice. I took a loan out at the tender age of 19, and some years later, I still have the remnants of it.

Current outstanding balance: £2900
APR: Unknown - paperwork I found says 8%, but when I rang to check some time back they said 14.9%.
Monthly payments: £219

Also, the loan has PPI which they told me was compulsory for me to get the loan (when I topped it up some years ago). I know that this is misselling and intend to claim.

Now - I had an accident recently and I've just had notification that I'll get £3k compo in the next fortnight or so, which is perfect for getting (partially) debt free!

So... here are the questions:

1. Do I request an early settlement figure in-branch, in writing, or can I do it over the phone?
2. Should the £3k cover it, hypothetically?
3. Can I still file a PPI misselling claim, even though I will be settling the loan shortly?
4. I gave them grief over bank charges a while back and got £1800 off them. Are they liable to have an eppy and try to close my account/claim my overdraft back immediately now that I'm paying early and lodging a PPI misselling claim?

Thanks in advance for any advice you can offer

Splath x

  • I am new to the whole forum thing so not sure if this is allowed but here goes,

I can give you the number of a company who can investigate and assist you with a PPI Claim if you wish, and of course if that is allowed.

if you have PPI, could you not claim on that when you had an accident?
  • You can claim for ppi your self and have all the cash yourself, if you go through a company you will loose a good percentage and its a case of sending some letters that are available on the forum.... if youhavent claimed on the ppi get it back and then maybe once its back pay the loan off :) all the best

If PPI was a condition of the load then it is not misselling.
