in Cutting tax
Hi there,
I just realised from my payslip that my tax code has been reverted to "BR" for the last two month.
payslip date tax code
30/4/2006 503L
31/5/2006 503L
30/6/2006 M1 BR
31/7/2006 M1 BR
Contacted my company finance guy and they said because they have had notification from the Inland Revenue to put me on this code.
During this tax code change period, my financial status remained unchanged, same job, same pay, not getting marry or divorce etc.
Tried to call HMIR for clarification, but always on hold.
Anyone else has similar experience?
thanks

Only when I'd failed to return a 'review' form HMRC wanted. So they reduced my Code in line with their 'estimate'. Tends to result in you returning the forms! If you want to test the depth of the water .........don't use both feet !0

finally got through to HMIR on phone, told them my situation and they pulled out my file and said that I have a second job --??!!!
It turned out that someone has given my NI number when s/he started a new job, that's why HMIR has issued a new BR taxcode to me.
Sounds like an id fraud or just pure typo error by someone.0 -
Why did they issue a BR code to your job and not the persons new job?
I would suggest that you put details in writing to HMRC and confirm with them that you have no other employment. Also request their assurance that the other individual will be contacted to establish their correct NI number. By doing this you are protecting yourself from any further 'jobs', which this individual may use the same NI number.
Additionally if they have accidentaly used your NI number with HMRC,what NI number have they given the Tax Credit people.0 -

Could be either. Or the fact that there are genuinely a number of duplicate NI numbers in circulation?
