goose down duvet shedding

Hi,
a little while ago I bought an expensive 100% hungarian goose down duvet (from ebay
) that was supposed to have allergy-free lining(ie no down would come out)
Unfortunately it is now shedding horrendously, so much so when I change the cover I have to leave the room afterwards:( If I fluff up the duvet I sneeze for ages due to the tiny bits of down floating around. You can see it poking through the cover so it obviously isn't as good quality/thick etc as it was supposed to be.
Question is-is there any way I can fix it? I bought it more than 3 months ago, and so cannot find transaction on ebay to contact seller. Would machine washing and tumble drying it help get rid of the fine bits coming out? Or should I face up to having been ripped off and bin it?:mad::o

You can machine-wash and tumble-dry a down duvet but only in one of the large machines you find in launderettes. I suspect this won't solve your problem in any case. I'd look into finding a non-permeable fabric and either make another cover for it or find someone who can make it for you. It is possible to decant the feathers into a new cover but this needs to be done outside preferably not on a windy day for obvious reasons. I suspect this would be a two-person task.0

Thanks, I didnt think to look on paypal and I found it there, so have emailed the seller, dont hold out a huge amount of hope though
I dont think you could put a new cover on it-its an allseasons one with 2 bits so they have to join together with poppers, but will look into it
I LOVE the feel of the duvet, but streaming eyes and sneezing when changing bed clothes, or even straightening the bed in the morning is NOT FUN  :mad:0 -
In that case if you can find an impermeable fabric you'll need to make a separate cover for each. I expect attaching the old cover to the new one with press-studs in each corner would keep them on straight, then you put a series of new poppers to attach the two quilts together but that's the easy part. The hard part is finding the right kind of fabric. If in doubt I always go to John Lewis first0

Thanks, we have a local fabric shop, will go in there and ask, then try to find someone to make it for me :eek:0
