The only value thing I have found that is no good is their tea bags. That said, Sainsburys Right Price ones are super!

I find most value products in the supermarkets are as good as the brand ones for a fraction of the cost.Due to more people finding things tight moneywise the value items have started to increase in price.

    Hi all,

I just thought I had to drop a line on here and I found the right thread for once!!!!

I haven't shopped at Tesco's online for a while as their prices had become too high and even their value range had become more expensive than everyone elses! I got dropped a mailing with my clubcard points earlier on in the week (we live near an express and use it for bread and milk, they don't stock a huge range of anything) and thought I would do an online shop this week using all the vouchers up to see if it was worth it and to kinda "test" their "improved" (so they say) value ranges and see if things would be cheaper than other supermarkets...which they were, I started with my basket at £40.00 plus £3 delivery, took the vouchers off and paid £26, even if I had paid £40 I would be impressed..the baskets were stacked high outside my front door, maybe Tesco's are starting their world takeover again!

I am just listing things that I found with my opinion... based on quality and price:

Value Chocolate Fudge Cake- 90p- Great with squirty cream at a bbq
Value Instant Whip type things- 9p, lovely
Value frozen stir fry veg- 70p for huge bag, excellent for a quick dinner
Value shampoo- 24p- looks like random jelly, cleaned my hair a treat (but I do have fine hair, not sure about people with thick curly locks)
Value Conditioner-26p- Looks and behaves like conditioner, left my hair shiny with "light" conditioning ( again not sure about thick hair)
Value Coleslaw-25p- like any other supermarket brand I have tried, not extra creamy but what I expected, does the job
Value thick bread-47p-now reformulated, used to be dry, now not dry, we tried a loaf and were most impressed
Value ham-40p- Like any other plastic ham....if you don't like plastic ham.....avoid!!
value custard sachet- 6p- just like birds and on apple crumble was brilliant
value seafood sticks-50p- like any other
Value yoghurt-15p for 4- tastes like all other supermarket yoghurt
    value fromage frais-20p- as above
Value fruit and veg- all good quality and long dates and comparable prices...too many prices to list
Value Pork Belly-avoid....much more expensive than everywhere else
Value fish fingers-40p- Cheaper than everywhere else, but just as nice as birds eye
    Value Tuna-42p- Lovely

just a few that I can think of for now.....but am going to have another trial next wk and see what happens, If I can keep the shopping budget under £40 for me DH and DS including a few treats then I will do so:) Kinda pleased, well done tesco for once :)

I actually like their value past sauce, but bob in a bit of their value red wine and some herbs and garlic, it's not so good without a bit of a tweak!

I always go for value stuff, but the only thing I don't buy value is teabags(I'm talking about 80 for 2?somethingp a box which taste like hot sawdust). There is not as much brand snobbery as there used to be,but as more people buy value ranges the prices do start to rise even though they are still far cheaper than the brand stuff.

    VAlue pasta sauce

I think it's nasty - even if tarted up - but my DS1 likes it (plain or tarted) as does DS3 so we tend to have some in as it's a quick and easy dinner for them if we're having a 'everyone's eating something different night (using up leftovers - in which case they'd get leftover meat/ veg in it) or we're all eating smething that he doesn't like or it's Cubs night (early tea required for him, so quick n easy pasta fits)

    Value jelly - yum :-)

I've used the value peanut butter for baking before, couldn't tell any difference in the end product at least. Would probably buy it again if I weren't trying to cut down on fats :o
