i phoned the court and they say it is for an overpayment of tax credits, im gobsmacked to say the least as the ammount is over 5.5k. ive had no summons, no discussions with tax credits, no attempts to take it back out of my tax credits or anything, not even had any attepts to recover the debt since the judgment was made back in 2007.
this has only come to light since reading the article on obtaining stautory credit reports online last night and taking a peak at my credit file.
im just at a loss as to what i should be doing about this.

Have you moved addresses from where you were overpaid tax credits? did they ever write to you to say it was overpaid? are you still claiming tax credits now?A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0

i moved back in 2008 infact it was around this time of year, the CCJ is registered with equifax as being jan2007 ive been claiming tax credits continuously since and for a good few years before that date and have had no communications atall to inform me of overpayment, court action, clawing money back or anything else.
i felt physicaly sick when i saw the CCJ and amount listed on my credit file.0 -
Hi
This might even have been added to thwe wrong file?
Starting points
get hold of the court and ask them for details? Ask where the correspondence from the court was sent? Chances are you can over-turn the CCJ.
Get hold of tax credits and find out if you owe or have ever owed this money. If you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0 -
I can just imagine the shock.
Do you think you could have been overpaid?
As scary as it is you need to find out as much as you can. You might want to talk to the court that issued it and ask what they can tell you about it. Then you are probably going to have to talk to tax credits to sort something out with them - though perhaps it would be worth speaking to CAB or similar for some advice first.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -
on the one hand i dont seem to be being chased so their is the temptation to let it be. on the other hand im seriously annoyed at having a CCJ registered against me, it seems to go along way to explining why natwest who ive had an account with for years suddenly decided to get all frosty with me. it makes sence now.
their was an overpayment issue back in 2003 when my youngest daughter was born, but this seemed to to some kind of administrative error on their part IIRC and i was under the impression it had all been sorted out as untill today i had heard no more about it.0 -
just spoke to the tax credits office it seems that this is an alleged overpayment from 03-04 which i have been advised to dispute.
my understanding was that this issue had been dealt with back in its day and had been resolved as i had heard no more about it.
i can see this being an absolute nightmare now that six or so years have passed. but i need to do something to clear my name and credit record.0 -
must admit im still at a loss to know why they have bothered to take out a CCJ but to this date have done nothing to recoever the money they claim i owe.0

Your starting point is to get eh CCJ reversed, see here http://www.nationaldebtline.co.uk/england_wales/factsheet.php?page=12_how_to_set_aside_a_judgment_in_the_county_courtIf you've have not made a mistake, you've made nothing0
