Experian/Red Collections!!

Hi guys,
And first of i have read a few posts on here and think this is a great site! Please keep up the good work!!

I signed up with Experian to take the 30 day trial as I have been living away in North america for 5 years and was curious on my credit rating, all of a sudden i get inundated with letters from the Red Debt Collection agency for a debt they say is from T - Mobile who i used to use over 5 - 6 years ago and as far as i am aware the last payment was settled and I cancelled the contract as i was moving overseas this is the report from Experian does this mean the debt in question would be null and void this year as far as the 6 year debt, this is the very first letter i have ever recieved on this as i am staying at my parents as ive recently moved back, and they say i have never had any letters of this nature since ive been away.

Note: A defaulted account is removed from your report after six years whether or not you have paid the debt in full. If you have paid some of the debt off, the balance should show how much you still owe.
Any help on this would be very much appreciated as ia m very worried about this situation!

thank you again

Paul.

Debts are statute barred after 6 years of non payment or written acknowledgement.

Do you know when you made last payment to this account?

Send the prove it letter first - http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=11570893&postcount=2

If over 6 years ago since last payment send SB letter if they reply -http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showthread.html?p=11571227#post11571227

There are two ways of constructing a software design: One way is to make it so simple that there are obviously no deficiencies, and the other way is to make it so complicated that there are no obvious deficiencies
  • Hi Dark Convict and thank you for the reply, I'm guessing the last payment would have been around the end of 2004 as i left the UK in May 2005 I did call T Mobile at some point in early 2005 Feb/March to ask what if anything was outstanding on the account and I think nothing was, it seems as though there could well have been something outstanding and it has acumilated hence the 1203.77 bill ive recieved! but there would not have been a payment made within the last 5 and a half years at least, shouuld i just send that letter or ignore it all together im not sure if the experian info i posted above means that the debt is void after i think 04/06/10

    Thank you
