Recycle bins

Where I live we have green wheelie bins for certain plastics, cans and paper/card. This is usually collected once a fortnight.
Recently I the green bins have not been collected at all. I can only assume that it is because someone has been dumping household waste in them which is clearly visible on top of the bins.
I have no idea who the cuprit is. Our street has a bit of a 'communal' approach to waste as the bins live at the end of the street. I don't even know which bins are 'ours' to be honest as we have only been renting for a few months, everyone seems to use any bin they like.
So what should I do? Should I contact the council? Will they do anything? Its such a shame that we can't get our recycling out as I really try to make an effort.

Ring the council's recycling or waste management team for a chat, or get your rubber gloves on and separate the waste!!Declutterbug-in-progress.⭐️⭐️⭐️ ⭐️⭐️0

get your rubber gloves on and separate the waste!!
I was fearing that someone would suggest that! :rotfl:
Might try the council, I don't see why they can't just empty it with the household waste! It's not going to go away if they ignore it.
Even if they did sort it once it would probably just happen again...
I have seen all sorts of rubbish in the bins, it's not exactly difficult to recycle but some people have no idea!0 -
Why make assumptions ? Ring the cleansing dept and ask why..................
....I'm smiling because I have no idea what's going on ...:)0 -
If as you suspect it is the case that recycling bins aren't being emptied because general waste is being dumped in them, have you tried speaking to your neighbours? Or leaving a polite note on the bins?
After all it's in everyone's interest to make recycling work and save your local council money. Good luck!0 -
That made me so mad in the flat we used to live in. We had a large recycling wheelie for 16 flats and one of the residents 'objected' to recycling, so made it known to all that she would not separate her rubbish and regularly dumped food waste in the recycling bin. The council used to leave little stickers on the bin saying why it hadn't been emptied, and eventually the flats management company were involved as she just would not stop.
Unfortunately I don't know how it played out as we moved, but I was thrilled to have my own recycling bin in which I could put all my correct items. Cue smug me!!I'm so sexy it's a wonder my underpants don't explode.0 -
Get to know your local allotment holders , They can never get enough paper and cardboard to re-cycle by adding it to the compost heaps on site, Also your kitchen peelings are needed , This could be a way by barter to obtain very fresh produce too ! The local council will take green garden waste away but at price - Ours charge £28 a year !.
What you consider waste is gold dust to others - The plot holder could become a very nice person- Yes- a very nice person !!!!!!!0
