have debt of £10,000 to LLoyds and Natwest cc. Hidden debt from OH but he has been supportive but we have no income other than Incapacity benefit so I cannot make the minimum payments this month and unlikely to in near future. Do I contact them straight away and offer token payment can you only do that after missing 1 or 2 payments. Don't know how to proceed.

Hi countthecost
I can't help I'm afraid, but bumping this back to the top so one of the regulars will see it tomorrow morning and hopefully give you some advice.
Good luck.

Pay what you can afford, anything under minimum payments are technically token payments.
You may wish to write to them about your circumstances, for further advice on making token payments or entering a DMP if this is going to be a long running issue, contact national debtline.Although no trees were harmed during the creation of this post, a large number of electrons were greatly inconvenienced.

As DC says contact one of the debt charities for help and advice. You could also post up a SOA and the clever people on here will also try and help you. Take care0

Hi and welcome
http://forums.moneysavingexpert.com/showpost.html?p=21937969&postcount=52 This letter is a good one to send the first month you cannot make full payments. Ideally enclose a token payment of at least £1 per debt.
Then as others have suggested either speak to one of the debt charities for advice or perhaps post your statement of affairs on here to see what we can recommend.
If you only have benefits coming in, its unlikely that you'll realistically be able to afford to repay £10k of debt.
Do you have assets/own a house? It may be that a DRO (debt relief order) could be suitable for you - although its likely you will need to tell OH is you take this option.A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0
