will joint current account affect eachothers credit score?

Myself and my bf opened a current account together and I seem to have a bad credit score due to a pesky £15 bill t mobile defaulted me on! :( im in the process of trying to get that cleared off my credit file but i was just wondering whether us having the joint current account will affect my partners credit score due to my bad credit as he has always had good credit history?

thanks!

p.s. sorry if ive put it in the wrong forum, i couldnt find one on current accounts!

yes it will create a financial association. Go for separate accounts.

Well if you want to get rid of the join between you two, you need to close all joint accounts you have, and notify all 3 credit agencies for a notice of disassociation after the accounts are closed.

The affect simply is when you apply for credit they can checks both your credit files, not just yours.

If the default is getting removed then it will be fine, but any defaults generally less than 3 years old has quite a big impact, and they still do impact until they fall off (takes 6 years)

1 default probably won't matter but say you had several and your partner applied for a credit card they might get a 25% apr, instead of a 15% apr card. Partner is seen as higher risk because of your file.
Hard to judge as every creditor scores you differently anyway, one migth only care you are registered to vote, another might want no defaults at all instead.

May I ask why you just didn't pay the £15? Such a small amount to default on. Did you get notices? Did they inform you they were going to issue a default?

it was 30 originally and i was a poor student at the time so i said id pay 15 then 15 next month but they never took the second payment and i never got any notices and to be honest i totally forgot about it til i saw it on my credit file :( if id known it would have caused all this fuss i would have paid it straight away. I never received any default notice either
