Can Tesco do this? Telling me my vouchers aren't valid cos of a name change?

I'm right :mad: over this!!!!!!!!

We started saving our clubcard vouchers towards a holiday last year. We have now saved up £150 of vouchers, which is worth £600 towards our chosen cosmos holiday.

The card is in my name. 2 months ago, my surname has changed due to divorce. All the vouchers I have saved up are (of course) in my married name which has only just changed.

I have spoken to Cosmos who have said I need to ask tesco to reissue the vouchers in my new name, as the name of the person booking the holiday has to be the same as the person on the vouchers - fair enough - but I have contacted Tesco today and they have told me that they won't do that; the lady on the helpline said I would either have to travel in my old name (which I can't do - a: that would be illegal as it isn't my name any more and b: all my passport and ID has now been changed) or that I would have to forego using the said vouchers which we have been saving up for over a year!!!

:mad::mad::mad::mad:

Surely this can't be right?? Just because my surname has change means I can no longer use my vouchers? That would be grossly unfair!!!

Anyone got any ideas as to what I can do?

Thanks....

    I would give them another ring - or e-mail them - and see if you can get someone more helpful. When I left my Ex, all my tesco vouchers got left behind, and then lost. I phoned customer service and the person I spoke to couldn't have been more helpful, she checked that they hadn't been used and then just re-issued the lot to my account.

    I know it isn't the same as your problem, but perhaps if you can offer to send a photocopy of the documentation confirming the name change to prove that you are still the same person?

    Good luck and let us know how you get on

    You could always say they were lost - could they please re-issue them. I have had vouchers re-issued due to loss (some time ago). Have you changed the name on your clubcard? If not then change that first and hopefully they will not see they are issuing to another name!

    Can't promise it will work, but it has to be worth a try. If they ask why you asked to change the name before, just maybe say that you kept a note of the vouchers but cannot now find them.

    I do not see what the problem would be as I myself have had my vouchers re-issued due to loss. I am now worried as I have recently got married and have also got a name change......some of my vouchers are in my maiden name and some are in my married name! I will need to give them a call and see what they say? I would definately call again and ask to speak to a manager.

    Yes I agree, try again. I had a simliar problem after marrying but they sorted it out in one phone call, I really think it depends who you talk to a lot of the time?
    It might be a bargain, but it's even cheaper not to buy it!
