I dont know if this is the right place but here goes
I have been overpaid by child tax credit people, now the children are adults I find that although they have been clawing back over several years
in fact I asked them to increase the clawback, but they didnt----I owe then approx £1500.
Has anyone had any success on offering them a one off lump sum less than what is owed?

Because of overtime , which varies week on week. So, over the years sometimes we were underpaid a bit and sometimes overpaid a bit. Problem being when they clawed back the over payments they didnt take enough, despite me writing to them and asking them to increase the amount they were taking eg they paid us £20 a week instead of £25, I asked them to pay us £10 instead but instead only got a letter back saying they couldnt decreasethe clawback! obviously a standard letter they just churn out."The purpose of Life is to spread and create Happiness" :j0

Hi
suggest you get your mp to write to them stating that they have overpaid you due to their error as you gave them the information to allow them not to overpay you. I have had several years of overpayment written off - I always gave them the information they needed - but they have only written off one at a time (funnily enough starting with the smallest!). THen I write to mp again , he raises it and then they write off another - now wrangling abou thte last one. THey will not enter into any negotiations with individuals but if mp writes then they ahve to look at it again.. Good luck0
