Recipe for Tiramisu - 'slimming' version

Options
Tesco's tiramisu is our family's favourite dessert, but it is obviously loaded with calories. As I am about to embark on a diet (sorry - 'healthy eating plan') I wondered if anyone could recommend an alternative (ie: less calorie laden) version. A colleague told me that the Slimming World recipe was fantastic, but - as I work term-time only - I will not be able to get the recipe from her until September, and I don't think my tastebuds can wait that long!

Thanks in advance!

  • You could sweeten the coffee for the sponge fingers with splenda and only add a little tiny bit of liquer (or none at all), and then for the creamy bit I mix extra light philadelphia with half fat creme fraiche and sweeten it with splenda. I find if you use fromage frais, then the mixture is too liquid and wont set properly.

    good luck!

Use carrots instead of biscuits and apples instead of cream and make it whilst doing star jumps in a sweat suit.
And if, you know, your history...

Not tried this myself but how about using Quark in place of the mascarpone. It's low in fat and quite thick so should hold together. German's use it a lot in desserts as well so isn't too savoury.

  • for 6-8 servings

    16 sponge fingers
    1/4 pint strong black coffee
    1 1/2 tsp vanilla extract
1 tbsp amaretto lquer or dark rum
1 tbsp brandy ( or marsalla wine or any similar spirits could be substituted for both)
3 250g cartons ricotta cheese (or half ricotta, half quark)
3-4 tbsp icing sugar (or sweetening substitut)
    1 tbsp cocoa powder

Stir coffee, 1/2 tsp vanilla and the spirits together and spoon over sponge fingers.
Combine ricotta with 3-4tbsp icing sugar and 1 tsp vanilla until smooth and fluffy. Spread over sponge fingers
Mix cocoa with remaining icing sugar and sift over surface of pudding.
    Chill:cool:

Thank you all for your suggestions - I'll be trying them out and asking the family to 'vote' for their favourite.

Meanwhile, Dixie Dean suggested: 'Use carrots instead of biscuits and apples instead of cream and make it whilst doing star jumps in a sweat suit.' No need for the sweat suit in this weather - NEVER thought I would be praying for it to rain, but I am!

Hiya, just to clarify the position on quoting recipies from books or other websites, Martin has this to say:

Please do not copy long text from other publications/websites. This may breach copyright. Instead use short quotes and a link. MoneySavingExpert.com asserts copyright on all comments posted on the boards.
