Help Needed!, What to buy on trip to France
Jimble
I have booked a day trip to France. I know that Beer, Wine, Fags and Diesel are cheaper (the recipe for a good evening - especially the diesel!). What other things should I look out for in the Hypermarche?
Thanks in advance.

Are you heading for calais?
we booked a day trip to france on the idea that ciggies would be cheaper, but due to changes in taxation over there they aren't. There is a little trick though, we took a taxi to belgium, a place literally called "tobacco alley". The taxi cost 10 quid, and ciggies (all good brands) were 25 quid a pack.
As for what else to buy: great cheesy pastries at the hypermarket, brie, camembert, some choccies... socks and undies can be well priced too.Softstuff- Officially better than 0070 -

Try having a look on http://www.day-tripper.co.uk/ as it has lots of advice on what to buy/do and also price comparisons with the UK. It also has links to the hypermarkets' websites which are worth looking at before you go to see what bargains are coming up.
We go to France quite a lot and used to find things like soap powder etc much cheaper but doesn't seem to be much price difference now. Fresh fish is normally good value, particularly the crevettes (large prawns) and if you ask they will give you some ice to pack it in. Also, cakes/pastries etc are not only really cheap but are also better quality.
You'll find lots of bogofs, three for the price of two, sale items etc, so make sure you know what the French translation is.
Another tip, make sure you have a one euro coin if you're going to the hypermarkets as you'll need one for the trolley. Also, if buying wine look out for empty wine boxes in the shop to put your bottles in as you go along...makes it much easier at the checkout.
Finally, if you're going to Tesco's don't forget to use your clubcard. Have fun.0
