Can I redye corduroy?

My beloved black cord jacket is looking a bit faded, I'm thinkin about chucking it out but wondered if anyone has had success with redying faded clothes and if so, what's the best way to do it? I wouldn't mind payin a bit to get it done as it'd save me buying a new one. How about the washing machine dyes - do they work?

I have used the washing machine dyes with excellent results. I think cord would dye OK - if you are going to chuck it anyway what have you got to lose? If you had it dyed professionally it would probably be cheaper to buy a new jacket!
I have had brain surgery - sorry if I am a little confused sometimes ;)

what is the fibre content? if it is pure cotton it should be fine, however polyester does not take dye so if it has a high content it would probably go a funny uneven colour try dylon dye you can get it at the supermarket dylon.co.uk they have an advice section on their website(i havnt looked at it tho)

    Hi sparkle_monkey,

I have had a lot of sucess with using dylon products in the washing machine to refresh tired looking clothing, but as janeawej says it depends on the fibre content of your jacket...the higher percentage of cotton, the more likely the dye will 'take'.

This thread might help you: Has anyone dyed faded black clothes black? Or have a look at the Dylon website where you can e-mail any queries you have.

Personally I'd go for it if you are thinking of binning the jacket anyway. Either way, please come back and let us know how you got on.

On a similar note I have a cord jacket that used to be navy I'd like to re-dye but it has a cream borg-fleece collar. Does anyone know what borg-fleece is made from? I'm hoping it's polyester and won't take dye but worried it might be nylon which does.

Years ago my mam made me a black corduroy skirt, I absolutely loved it and I remember being so disappointed when it faded, my mam dyed it using a dylon dye in the washing machine, turned out great :j
