Welcome Finance - debt isn't ours?

I am new to this site (though I am a long-time lurker) so hello all
My partner keeps getting hassled by Welcome Finance regarding a debt that isn't his. He enquired about a loan some time ago but then told them he wasn't interested. We never received any money from them, either. This was probably about a year or two ago.
Fast forward to now, we received a "final demand" letter from Lewis Debt Recovery, who apparently are acting on behalf of Welcome, trying to recover a debt of £1316!
I've done some searches on here and I have found the "prove it" letter, which I have amended and printed out, ready to send off to them. My question is, has anyone had this type of thing from Welcome Finance before? My search for them only seems to turn up cases of people who have definitely taken out loans but then are having issues.
Another question: it's too late to send the letter today, but do you recommend sending it recorded delivery? (I guess it would stop them saying they never received it.)
Thanks in advance for the help

Hi
The prove it letter is definitely the right place to start. Just to check you are just sending the standard prove it letter not a CCA request aren't you?
I would send recorded for the sake of being able to prove it.
It could be someone else with the same or similar name who does owe them money who they have incorrectly linked to your partner and his address (they are fairly incompetant after all)A smile enriches those who receive without making poorer those who giveor "It costs nowt to be nice"0 -

Hi, yeah it's just a letter that says "we have no knowledge of this debt" etc, etc and that they need to provide evidence of the debt.
My gut did tell me to send recorded to be honest! But thanks for the help
That's possible - I really hope it is that simple! But considering he's on the system, I fear it might be more complicated >.<0
