How long will creditors keep calling ?

After having seen the light and contacted Payplan ( who have been marvellously helpful). My debts are around £85,000.My first agreed months payment has been transferred to them so they can start repayment of my debts. I am however continuing to receive numerous phone calls from creditors throughout the day, from 8.00am until after 7.00pm. They just don't seem to hear or listen when I tell them that I am paying through Payplan. How long will they continue to call? My wife and children are getting really anxious. I am out at work until the late evening and am not able to take all the calls.

This is a hard one to answer, but they will continue to call for a few months until you DMP is up and running properly and even after that.
Do you have caller display? If not consider getting it and then just screen the calls and don't answer the ones you don't want to, that's what I did.
Much easier that going through the same rigamarole each time. If you do speak to any of them ask them to only contact you via letter some will abide by this others will ignore it but it might help somewhat.
Hope that helps

They will also re-start the phone calls after about 6 months, just in case you have won the lottery in the interim! I found this very stressful (started my dmp in October) - this second lot of phone calls has just stopped, apart from Lloyds who are harassing me to refinance my debt via a big loan! I have now learnt to ignore the calls - just refuse to talk and tell them to talk to Payplan, or write and say the same thing. If they get really irritating, I tell them to hang on, put the phone down and leave it until they get the message.0

Buy a very cheap mobile phone on PAYG for just your creditors. Then contact all your creditors with a 'change of details' and change your number to the mobile phone. This will have loads of benefits for you as you can take it with you and make sure you get the calls, plus you can switch it off outside of hours. You can even leave a message saying you only accept calls between 9 and 5 mon to fri or something - just like their customer service!

Make sure you do take calls on it otherwise they'll no doubt go back to calling your old number.
Good luck!Debt as at 12th July 2006 - £61,345

Hi,
Had the same problem!!
Place your number with this company (FREE online)
http://www.ukdatait.co.uk/cgi-bin/sgAddNumber.cgi
Silent call guard takes 24 hours to kick in.
Also with TPS
http://www.tpsonline.org.uk/tps/
This takes 28 days to kick in.
Now contact your telephone provider and tell them you are receiving calls from companies that you 'have told contact by mail only' (tell MBNA this)
and see what the telephone company can do for you (remember your the customer!)
I got caller I.D and anonymous caller reject!
All calls have now stopped!
Hope this helps you and your family get some rest!!
Regards

just remind them of your situation explain you will not disclose any information over the phone and you will be happy to answer all their question via royal mail, i was getting ridiculus calls on sunday from next, apparently its computor generated, in the end i refused to confirm my details (no sorry i can not give out my date of birth first line of address etc) youdont have to speak to these people if youare clear you will deal with them via the postman only BUT MAKE SURE YOU DO, the calls will slow down, you may have in about 6 months also those that still wont except your payments pass it over to a collections agency so it will be the same thing again, so be polite explain your situation and repeat that contact via post only please
hope this helpsLIGHT BULB MOMENT, JUST IN THE NICK OF TIME!

We tend to advise people to change their phone number if the calls get really bad - we never confirm a clients phone number as part of data protection to creditors and they never get the clients new number from us.
Also, as soon as they say "its x calling from MBNA" just put the phone down. Its hard for people to do this as most of us have to fight against the manners that have been drilled into us, but sometimes it just has to be done!0 -

Great post Iwantmorecash, ended up saving me a bit of time. I had a text today from the very same number just saying:
"I need to talk to you, can you call me on 01244879094"
The text came from the same number which immediately aroused my suspicions (I am very cynical). So, knowing Google is my friend, I went online to see what I could find. Firstly Googled the code and got an idea of the area, which meant nothing to me at all, then google the entire number which came up with 1 result, this thread
I am going through the process myself and have been for a couple of years now, slowly working them down. I have two accounts with MBNA and thanks to you, I now have another number to ignore :T

ive been on a dmp for only 1 mnth, ive got 8 creditors and only 2 have rung me MBNA twice and citi once, I had these calls in the first 2 weeks and none since, the dmp company told all my creditors not to ring me as I had not told my family and could not possibly discuss anything with them in the house , they also told them I wa ill which I was, and fair play I have had no hassle at all. Touch wood ! I also had caller display put on my phone and banned withhelds nos getting through.Hope this helps Love xxxx0

I stopped the calls from Barclays by telling them to contact me by post only, recently started again, every hour on the hour (I kid ye not). When I finally got to answer it I was told they started calling again because apparently they sent me a letter that I didn;t reply to (never got any such letter).
The guy got pretty upset when I reminded him that by calling when I specifically asked them to remove my details was breach of Data Protection, and when I started asking for his name, extension number, how long he'd been there etc 'as the Information Commisioner will want to know' he hung up....haven't called sinceThis year I'm getting organised once and for all, and going to buy a house with my wonderful other half. And that' s final!
