Hi there,
I am getting married May 2012, so am a little ahead of myself here but I wondered if anyone knows of any pretty / unusual reception venues in Gloucestershire, maybe Bristol... we're getting married in Uley so any suggestions would be useful.

yey!!! An area that I know LOTS about...!!!
There is a very special venue, that I love (and secretly want if I ever get married!!)
What sort of thing are you looking for? Buffet or sit down? and how many people?
Is there a budget??Why does nobody say Thank You anymore??:mad:Debt Free as of September 2011 :jSealed Pot 2009 number 334 - £100 Saved! yey!!Sealed Pot 2010 number 334 - £116.51 Saved! Yey!! YIPPEE!!0 -
I'll make a start while I'm all excited...!!
Nibley House can cater for 60 (sit down) or 80 (buffet)
http://www.nibleyhouse.co.uk/weddingvenueingloucestershire.html
Owlpen Manor is slightly bigger- 120 (sit down or buffet)
http://www.owlpen.com/
Egypt Mill can have 120 (sit down) or 150 (buffet)
http://www.egyptmill.com/weddings/
Matara is lovely, but not sure of the capacities -
http://www.matara.co.uk/matara_weddings/matara_weddings.html
The Barn can accommodate up to 300 guests
http://www.thebarnfunctioncentre.co.uk/weddings.htm
Berkeley Castle can have up to 150 guests
http://www.berkeley-castle.com/weddings.html
or, if you want something truly different - go to Slimbridge Wetlands Centre http://www.wwt.org.uk/visit-us/slimbridge/venue-hire
and all your guests will be able to go out and feed the birds and have full access to the entire complex for the day. (If you like the idea, it is better to go and have a look, rather that look at the website, cos the website doesn't do it justice). Why does nobody say Thank You anymore??:mad:Debt Free as of September 2011 :jSealed Pot 2009 number 334 - £100 Saved! yey!!Sealed Pot 2010 number 334 - £116.51 Saved! Hey Dizzie,
thanks so much for your reply, its given me somewhere to start... actually Owlpen in a fave at the moment so I can go an compare the others nowI like the idea of Slimbridge so will investigate this!
Not sure about a lot of the finer points yet. Want to keep things as cheap as possible however, my parents will be helping out so not totally restricted! It won't be a huge do so numbers of between 50 and 75 i reckon.
Where is the place you love then?0 -
I love Slimbridge - there is such a variety there, and I love the idea of having wedding photos with all the Swans swimming behind..!!
If you go to Slimbridge, make sure you make an appointment for them to show you around properly - there are some really lovely areas.
(and they're not too badly priced!!) When I went to have a look (I do part time event planning) they were really kind and showed me everything I needed to see - you really have the "wow" factor there if you want something completely different to every other wedding!!
Keep me updated and I can give you more ideas!!Why does nobody say Thank You anymore??:mad:Debt Free as of September 2011 :jSealed Pot 2009 number 334 - £100 Saved! yey!!Sealed Pot 2010 number 334 - £116.51 Saved! Yey!! YIPPEE!!0 -
Thanks Dizzie, i will
Will at some point go and look at Owlpen, and Slimbridge too. Also saw a fab place called Friday Island Weddings but this is over by Cirencester so maybe too far, but I did like the idea of it. Grrr 2012 too far away, I am so excited already!!0 -
Nothing to stop you looking.....actually, it's better to have more time, cos then you can go and have a sneaky peak when they have a wedding on and get a better feel for the place.
Have you looked at Tortworth Court too?Why does nobody say Thank You anymore??:mad:Debt Free as of September 2011 :jSealed Pot 2009 number 334 - £100 Saved! yey!!Sealed Pot 2010 number 334 - £116.51 Saved! Yey!! YIPPEE!!0 -
ohhh - also have a look at Painswick Rococco Gardens, they are beautiful, but a little bit further to travel (not much though, tbh)Why does nobody say Thank You anymore??:mad:Debt Free as of September 2011 :jSealed Pot 2009 number 334 - £100 Saved! yey!!Sealed Pot 2010 number 334 - £116.51 Saved! Hi i'm also a Bristol/South Gloucestershire bride and think i have visited nearly every civil licenced venue between Bristol and Glos. Some of the ones we've visited and loved are (would post links but can't as newbie)
Eastwood Park
Tortworth Court
Stonehouse Court
Also gloucestershire council website list all civil licenced venues
Please be warned some of them look lovely in the photos but when we visited we realised they were not what we imagined - Egypt Mill is next to a main road and an Industrial Estate with a fire station next door!!
Hope this gives you some ideas although most are not that unusual but some are v pretty.:j baby lauren born 06/01/2011 + got married 02/07/2011 :j0 -
Tortworth is lovely.... I like the Rococco gardens too, very pretty0

OP is getting married in Uley though, so doesn't need the venue to have a marriage licence.
My friends had their wedding reception at Egypt Mill and everyone thought it was lovely.
Another good tip for you MrsB2B is to visit the venues around May - as that will be when you're getting married, you will have a better idea of what it will actually look like for your BIG DAY!!!Why does nobody say Thank You anymore??:mad:Debt Free as of September 2011 :jSealed Pot 2009 number 334 - £100 Saved! yey!!Sealed Pot 2010 number 334 - £116.51 Saved!
