Gameboy Advance SP £49.99

Options
From direct4games.com - seems like a good price to me - these are over £80 new on Amazon.co.uk. How different are the graphics on one of these compared to the new DS?

Hope it's of some use to someone.

This has been updated by the tiny gba micro. Can get it for the same price as this on Amazon.

I wouldn't say the micro is an update, just something different. The screen is much smaller and there are no improvements in screen brightness. It's not like comparing the DS and DS Lite.

JPS, the graphics on a GBA are comparable to a SNES and the DS is comparable to N64 if that helps. You can get a DS Lite for twice the price (or get a bundle with a game or two) and you can play GBA games on it too.

You can see a comparison of screen brightness here:

...the micro is a lot brighter than the SP, but not as bright as the DS lite. I've got a micro and an SP - the micro's battery life is a lot better than the SP, and its about the size of a credit card but thicker.

I'd recomend buying a DS lite as they play GBA games and DS games. GBAs are being fazed out now, so there won't be many more games coming out ...

that screen brightness comparison looks odd, my SP is really bright when using it in a dark room. It looks like they forgot to switch on the backlight, you can barely make out the text on the screen.

    hehe

    buy the DS lite instead

really, you get two screens for 90 quid

you only get one with the GBA for £50 quid, that makes the lite 10% cheaper
    money saving my @rse.
I've spent 10x as much as I would if I had never discovered this website :-)

I got a gba micro a few months back and they rock!

The screen may be tiny, but its much nicer than the old SP ones (and almost as good as the DS lite ones). The control pad is nicer too (and i think they've made the DS lite more like it.)

Its also small enough that you can stick it in a coat pocket and forget about it.. until your bus is late and you need it. Something you can't do with a DS.. not even the Lite. (which is awesome too..)

Nintendo maintain that they aren't phasing out the GBA anytime soon.. and i kindoa believe them, mostly. Its true the Ds has been a huge success... but the userbase for the various gba consoles is HUGE so theey'd be daft to stop making GBA games... especially when DS owners can use them too.

I'm just about to buy a DS lite, but i'll definately still keep my gba micro around for a long while yet...
    stay lucky!
    Steve.
