OK yes it's theft and I don't do it but then I don't really care about 0.001p worth of sugar + additives either. Not really sure there's any dilemma here, it's so trivial.

More interesting maybe is do you take your own sweets/juice into the cinema? Many of them ban it. With some movies the ticket (at least for new movies) is 100% to the producers and cinema's only revenue is the sweets. But £3 for bottled tapwater...
  • Maybe they don't know it's overpriced ? Maybe they know but they're happy to pay an exorbitant price. Who am I to comment on the state of mind of cinema patrons?

All i'm saying is that making a 10000% profit margin is exorbitant! If people are happy to pay that, more fool them.

Having worked in places like this, I can tell you the staff couldn't care less. The cinema probably loose kilos worth of sweets due to ... 'staff testing'.

That would result in instant dismissal for theft where I work.

Glad to see you agree they are nutcases.

Just to respond to those who say cinemas don't ban outside food, there is a thread here, which gives a link to a Daily Mail article .

I work for Odeon, which does NOT do so.

Funny that - I've never been to a cinema where you have to buy the sweets there. Do such places exist?

Our local Vue cinema certainly never used to allow food bought from elsewhere. I remember being terrified they would find my bottle of coke and bag of sherbet spaceships in my pockets. :rotfl:

It's been a wee while since I was at the pictures so I'm not sure what the situation is now.

  • It is absolutely theft! What an example to our children. It actually makes me hopping mad when people think they have the right to take something that doesn't belong to them. It can start off with something small and then what? Not good news!

Well, it seems some cinemas are trying to enforce this petty rule now about bringing in your own food. But i think if you're sensible and don't take hot food then thats fine. Some reasons could be you're diabetic or have allergies so can't risk food bought elsewhere. Also, refuse to have your bag searched as if they don't have a licence or are not the police, they have no right!

And definitely don't eat the pick and mix as its way too expensive and is classed as stealing. It only take one seriously petty manager having a bad day to make a complaint to the police and you could be charged (worst case scenario). But i serisouly think people need to lighten up a bit! as for terminating a friendship with someone over this, they must have very few friends! I find those with the tightest rules and regulations are always the worst in their private lives...
  • Theft...if you haven't paid for it it's not yours! Even my young children know to wait untill we have payed at the check out.

I do how ever take our own snacks into the cinema 1) very expensive 2) where have peoples hands been before they delve into the sweets!!!
