How long do sandwiches keep?

I'm feeling quite organised today and i'd quite like to make my weeks worth of packed lunches for work so that it's done an ready. I've got some pitta breads and wraps to use up, will they keep in the fridge so i can just grab one each morning?

They would be fine from a safety POV, I think, but the bread might be a bit stale by Friday. In your position I'd make them today and freeze all except tomorrow's - if you take one out of the freezer first thing in the mornin it should be defrosted and ready to eat by lunchtime.

    HTH. :)

  • I second the 'freeze them' advice. I think a little mayo would be OK - I've used it in frozen sandwiches before.

It should be fine. The only thing I can think of that doesn't freeze well is egg mayo, but it's the egg that's the problem, not the mayo (it tends to go unpleasantly rubbery).

    Hi bramble,

In my experience mayonaise doesn't freeze well but as others have said it does then why not give it a try and see what you think. Salad and other veg with high water content definitely don't freeze well in sandwiches.

Have a read of this thread to decide if it's worth freezing your sandwiches:

I'll add your thread to that one later to keep the suggestions together.

I'd make the sandwiches with just the cheese/fish/meat content, freeze them then take along a little pot of mayo and a bag or pot of salad bits to eat with the sandwich or put into the sandwich.
